A dark porter like beer from 3 fonteinen, brewed with Lambic yeast

PapaVillum (385) - Valby, DENMARK - APR 16, 2014
33 cl, flaske, 7,0 % ABV, gave fra Værste Fætter og Anne - tak! 16. april 2014. Sort/brun belgisk Schwarzbier med flot stor moccafarvet skumkrone på ca. 4 cm. Mild duft af kaffe og chokolade. Syrlig og sødlig smag sammen med lidt bitterhed fra brændt malt. Tør let syrlig afslutning. Antager, at brygget er ment som / kan bruges som en form for dessertøl med den let skjulte chokolade-smag, det indeholder. I smagen er der også tydelige smagsnoter af den tilsatte 3 Fonteinen Brethanomyces-gær. Medium lang eftersmag. Kulsyreindhold medium. En lidt spændende øl, der skal smages igen fx til vanilleis.

At my place with Taylor, Matt and Jacob. Pours brown with lacing, aroma is interesting, some sweet malt, can’t tell if I get Brett or what. Taste is some funk, very light malt, dry interesting funk that I really can’t find descriptors for.

Bottle... Pours hazy and dark brown with no head. The bouquet is roasty and chocolaty with a hint of funk. Medium to full-bodied with tingly carbonation. The flavor is sweet and chocolaty with a rumor of acidity. Tangy, chocolaty finish. Kudos to 50belair for his generosity!

UPDATED: JUN 22, 2014 Vierte color negro intenso con media capa de espuma que perdura unos mms; en nariz aromas a malta tostada, caramelo, vinagre de Módena y café; en boca entrada media y refrescante con matices agrios y notas de café; parece un hibrido entre una porter y una cerveza lambic; alcohol bien integrado con pos gusto largo y amargor medio, cerveza interesante por su exclusividad pero no es mi estilo preferido.

Sigmund (4939) - Tau, NORWAY - APR 6, 2014
330 ml stubby bottle, probably from Voldby Købmandsgaard. ABV is 7%. Black colour, moderate to low tan head. Interesting aroma of prunes, brettanomyces, chocolate and ripe dark berries. The flavour has a slight fruity acidity and dry roasty notes, notes of prunes, mild coffee and chocolate. Very moderate hops.

conway (1310) - - APR 4, 2014
Bottle. Dark cola color with a quickly dissipating light tan head. Aroma is chocolate, roasted malt, light coffee and dark fruit notes with an underlying floral note. Taste is dark fruit, chocolate, light earthiness, a hint of smoke with a roasted malt and vanilla finish. Mouthfeel is medium, sticky with a quick finish and unusually strong carb. Really creative use of wild yeast and still highly enjoyable.

Sample at Buckeye Beer Engine on 3/22/14. Black in color with a thick tan head. Aroma of dark tart fruit, slight roast and caramel. Roasty chocolate and coffee flavor, giving way to a bit of sourness before a roasty coffee finish. It’s gotta be hard to make a beer like this where the sourness doesn’t dominate, but they pulled it off beautifully.

330ml bottle into a wine goblet. B.B.D. 02/10/16. Pours a pitch black with a finger of tan foam and nice lacing. Nose is roasted malts, oak, cocoa, ash, and lactic cherries. Taste is ashy malts and chocolate with a twangy dark fruit/cherry/musky finish. Lightly lactic and refreshing. Its...an odd beer but one that works better then any intentional or unintentionally infected American stout/porter I’ve tried. The porter characters are there and the brett show’s through just enough to give it some unique funk and fruit without being over powering or gross. Not something I feel I would ever be in the mood for but it’s a successfully unique beer.

Bottle sample at tasting. Brown black with a nice tan head. Aroma of roasted malts, coffee and funky notes. Sweet with mild light sourness, mild bitter finish. Medium-bodied.

Base porter is good. Slightly sweet. Just am not certain if this style is amenable to wild yeast. Doesn’t seem to add anything. Here at least it’s not in your face.
