Quite possibly the worst Belgian beer I have ever had. Every dimension of good Belgian beer is taken to extreme levels. Excessively bitter and sour. Burnt, not toasted, roasted or smoked. On the plus side, it looks and smells good.

Keg at biercab, barca. Black with off white head. Aroma is smoky choxolate and coffee, with some herbal notes. Taste is bright and rich at the same time, roasty bitterness with a slightly tart overtone. Nice fizz on the tongue and good medium body with oil. Really like this one.

Tried in bottle bought in Austria at Tribaun. Colour is dark brown/black. Aroma is malts, caramel, chocolate and cherry. It also has a sour note. Taste is caramel, chocolate, coffee, cherry and sour yeast. Very nice porter! ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

On pouring a lovely aged malty aroma, beautifully oxidised, autolised, and mellowed. However, close up it’s got a lovely apricotty aroma too. Basically black, and has a nice dark tight head. Lovely yeast-extracty taste, not quite marmitey. Nice coffee roast. Pleasant body, fullish, but with pleasant carbonation too, so it’s remarkably light. Finish is very roasty, almost burnt but not ashy. Not sour at all, which is what I had feared, but the apricotty aroma (and burps) are a magnificent reminder of the joys of lambic without any sourness. Very interesting and complex brew. No sign of 7% at all. Age has treated this very well, one I do recommend . But at this age you must pour carefully, the yeast at the bottom has autolysed into fluffy lumps, and when one plops out, you’ve lost. 3 Fonteinen again impress.

A Porter with brett is strangely wonderful. Nearly black, persistent thick caramel froth. In the nose something like salad with vinaigrette, some cocoa. Full, round body paired with acidity. I really liked this one.

---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle @ home. Pours dark brown with a large, creamy, attractive head. Tan colored with nice lacing. Aroma contains a nice blend of barnyard and light acidic brett character in balance with milk chocolate, cocoa and dark bread. Also notes of vanilla, red and dried fruits, lemon. Taste is straight up sour and acidic initially with notes of red berries, dried fruit. Mid taste has balancing milk chocolate, lemon and some caramel. Lingering sourness, oak, coffee, hay and barnyard, in an interesting combination. Medium bodied, with the milk chocolate providing a nice smooth overall balance to the acidic notes.
