Three Ravens Dark is a European smoked dark ale. A blend of unique German malts and classic Hallertau hops add intrigue to an elegant, yet welcoming beer. Modelled on an age old Franconian style ready to be rediscovered. Traditional bottle-conditioning naturally carbonates this beer and helps add to its complexity.

Bottle. Great aroma, but palate is thin. Aroma has smoke, bacon, and also chocolate. Flavour is sweet, with very light bitterness. Palate is silky, and thin-bodied, it doesn’t hold the strong flavours so well. Dark brown colour, with a fizzy head.

Bottle. Really nice smoke flavour, like drinking smokey bacon, but still super well balanced. Worth a go if you like smoke.

Firstly, hats off to three ravens for tackling this style. Pours clear brown with a weak off-white head. Nice oaky, chocolate aroma, the smoke comes through as less of the meaty and more of the woody type.. Reminded me a bit of the spezial rauchbier, though not quite as good. The body is pretty standard and delivers the flavours easily enough. More woody smoke in the mouthful, really subtle and enjoyable. Picked up a bit of hazelnut ritter sport chocolate or something too. Nice toasty finish with a hint of smoke. Excellent.

Not a heavily smoked beer but one of the few made in this style in Australia. A medium bodied beer with hints of smokiness matched well by the other malt characters.

Overall very nice without the usual bacon of a smoke beer (though i doubt this is really a smoke beer at all). Quite different and charry.

This is a smoke beer done very well, nicely balanced however a little more body would be great to hold the beer together better. Good on its own, but match it with a chargrilled steak and WOW!

Pours hazy copper with a small head. Nose shows sweet caramel, smoke, bacon and light roasted malt. More smoke and bacon show as flavours, with sweet clean malt in the background. Creamy low carbonation and body.
