500ml bottle. Hazy and murky brown colour with an even layer of light coffee coloured foam and lots of sediment floating around. Smokey wood fire aroma. Sweet flavour that tastes a bit flat. Has some smoke in the flavour.

Bottle. Brown with an inch of beige head. Aroma of chocolate, toast, grass, a wisp of smoke. An out-of-place banana note is there too. Taste has some caramel sweetness and apples with insistent but gentle drying roasted bitterness. Nice creamy texture with low carbonation. Alcohol is not noticeable. The fruit doesn’t really belong but the mouthfeel is lovely and it’s tasty and drinkable. Won me over after a dodgy start.

Draught at The Royston Hotel. This one grew on me. Not what I would put in the style of Schwarzbier - not dark or roasty enough. But as a dark lager, it was very sessionable.

On tap at the Courthouse. Very nice dark beer. Aromas of smoke, caramel, and apple. Taste is sweet, with a hint of sourness, and light bitterness. Palate is velvety, and medium bodied. Brown, with a thin head.
