3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 madvike (2077) - Middleton, Wisconsin, USA - DEC 4, 2012
On tap at the Nitty Gritty - Pours black, though not like oil with a thin head. Nose is roasty, with some chocolate and sweet wheat notes. Not getting dunkelweizen from this at all, but it’s pleasant. Taste is the same...smooth and roasty with a sweetness, finishing with a bit of bitter roast. Hints of coffee grounds. Fairly thin.
3.3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 MaltOne (145) - Wisconsin, USA - NOV 28, 2012
Surprising for a wheat beer, and in particular, where I found it - on tap at a new BBQ place in Grafton (called BBQ’s - old Paramount location.) Served in 12oz. It looks more like a porter or stout, but has a smoothness like a a wheat bear. Roasted grain and coffee notes. Medium body. Not bad.

Pretty good stuff that’d be a lot better if not so cold. Served with a smallish, tan, foamy, thick, creamy head that slowly settled and lots of sheeting lace. Color is an opaque brown black. Aroma is malt and roast. Flavor’s like nose, with good balance between bitter, sweet, and tang. Body and carbonation are good. Finish is like flavor, slightly long, and very drinkable. Again there’d be a lot more interesting things here if it weren’t so cold. Still, good stuff.

Deep brown, almost black. Soft cocoa roast and light wheaty saltiness. Light wheat and mild spice that morphs to light cocoa and a mild roast finish. Well-attenuated. Great stuff.

On tap at Old Fashioned, pours a very dark brown with a red hue when you hold it to the light, thin off white head with no lacing, aroma is very sweet with some chocolate and malt, the flavor has a nice roasty backbone with a sweet finish, mouthfeel was kind of light, just okay.

On tap at The Stone. Dark brown with a quickly dissipating tan head. Aroma of chocolate, roasted malt, peat, wheat and a bit of sugar. Taste of chocolate and wheat with roasted malt, a hint of frit and faint bitterness on the finish. Not really a dunkleweizen.
