Surprising for a wheat beer, and in particular, where I found it - on tap at a new BBQ place in Grafton (called BBQís - old Paramount location.) Served in 12oz. It looks more like a porter or stout, but has a smoothness like a a wheat bear. Roasted grain and coffee notes. Medium body. Not bad.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Pours an opaque black with a thin tan head. Nose is of dark roasted grains and a hint of chocolate. Rather thin viscosity, but nice and creamy on the palate. The taste is of dark roasted grain with suggestions of chocolate and molasses. Very lightly hopped, it finished with a mild dry touch. Pairs well with pastrami and rye.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
This pours a dark brown/black color with a slight, off-white head. The aroma is slightly robust with burnt starches and molasses. The taste is fairly heavy and complex. There is a lot of roasted flavor mixed with some coffee a slightly bitter hop finish. Pretty decent brew for being a newer brewery.

2.8 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Bottle @ Richardís Tasting. Dark brown pour with a khaki head. Aromas of roasted malt, coffee, and cocoa. Some ash, coffee, and a hint of graham cracker sweetness. Palate is bitter roasted malt and coffee forward. Ash, light sweetness of graham cracker, and some dark chocolate. A weird peppery note on the finish. Not bad, but not a very good Dunkelweizen.

1 AROMA 2/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 2/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 2/20
Very dark, black color. No wheat aroma at all. Taste is murky, thick, high viscosity. Over carbonated as well. Way, way too much of a good thing. This tastes like homebrew gone terribly wrong.

4.5 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Very unique. Quite drinkable with a light body for a dark beer, but heavier flavors packed in.

Tap. Nose was roast-y and chocolate. Taste was unique, porter-like with licorice. Extremely unique and worth having more than one of.

3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
On draft at The Beer Market in Bolingbrook, IL. Pours a rich, dark brown with a creamy looking tan head. Aroma of roasted malt, dark fruits, chocolate, some wheat malt presence. Flavor is roasted malts, some bitter chocolate and coffee notes. Medium bodied with a nice smooth, creamy texture. Iíd like a little more wheat presence, but this is drinkable.

3.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20
Draft at the Burger Joint, Ogilve Transportation Center. Deep brown like dried blood, with just a little bit of highlighting at the bottom. A thin tan head. Has the creamy smell of a porter or milk stout. A very big taste thatís too complex to pigeonhole. Start with some Schwartzbier malt, Just a slight astringency. A bit of bakerís chocolate and again, a creamy texture. Quite filling after the Tallgrass 8-Bit I just had. Lacks the "spice" of a wheat beer, but surely offers a fine smooth texture, emphasized at the end by the return of a milk stout-ish mouthfeel.

On tap @ the ‹ber Tap Room in the Wisconsin Cheese Shop, Milwaukee. Deep brown with mahogany highlights. Dusty roasty aroma, light mouthfeel, with the dark malts totally overwhelming any wheat traits. This drinks more like a light stout.
