3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 drpimento (1936) - La Crosse, Wisconsin, USA - NOV 16, 2012Pretty good stuff that’d be a lot better if not so cold. Served with a smallish, tan, foamy, thick, creamy head that slowly settled and lots of sheeting lace. Color is an opaque brown black. Aroma is malt and roast. Flavor’s like nose, with good balance between bitter, sweet, and tang. Body and carbonation are good. Finish is like flavor, slightly long, and very drinkable. Again there’d be a lot more interesting things here if it weren’t so cold. Still, good stuff.

Draft. Malt and hay aroma. Dark black color. Taste is very heavy on roasted malt. Not a lot else. A little too much carbonation for me but a nice light beer for summer.
3.2 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 akoeninger (156) - Wisconsin, USA - APR 26, 2013
Dark and frothy head. Weak nose, but mainly roasted malt. Some typical wheat beer smell. Taste is banana and clove followed by a roasted nut and chocolate, though not as strong as in a stout. I haven’t had too many examples of this style of beer. This was like a more refreshing stout, a stout for warmer times. Decent, hit the spot when I had it. Versatility remains to be seen.

Poured a nearly black color with a light beige head and lacing. Aroma was of roasted malts and a slight fruity twinge. Taste was mainly of roasted malts - somewhat coffee and chocolate flavors predominated. I could not easily detect any wheat clove flavoring - it was fairly hidden. Palate was decent. Overall, not a baaaad brew although I didn’t really experience much of the wheat supposedly there.

On tap at the Roman Coin in Milwaukee. Pours thick coffee black. Flavor is slightly bitter and quite roasted with a medium heavy mouthfeel. Bitter water finish. Not bad but a bit too roasted for me.

Palatable beer, but the first swig was a shock because in has stout flavors, overall not too baaad.

Dark pour small tan head some lacing. Flavor is a bit off to me a touch funky roasty some bread... I’ll avoid it in the future.
3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 OnWisconsin (132) - Wisconsin, USA - FEB 1, 2013
A solid beer for the style. Color was a dark brown with red hughs on the edge with a light tan 1 finger head which did stick around thanks to the wheat. Aroma hits you with mild wheat up front followed by some chocolate and finishing with some light roasted malts. Taste is roasted malts with some mild sweetness in the middle of the palate. Finishes a little grainy on the tongue and had a light to medium mouthfeel with heavy carbonation.

Dark brown with thick, creamy tan head. Great lacing. Roast, chocolate, mild caramel, and earth aroma. Full bodied, flavor like aroma, creamy texture. Mild bitterness- malt dominant.

On tap at c.1880. Poured very deep brown with a creamy, well-retained khaki head. The aroma picked up a nice blend of roasted black and chocolatey malts paired with some toasted wheat and grains.. well-presented. The flavor found well-roasted black malt and coffee notes at the core, with lightly tangy wheat, ripe banana, and cloves laced throughout.. prickly carbonation joined in on the finish. Medium-ish bodied and dry on the palate.. smooth feel across the middle.. overall a very good drinker.
