3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle. Banana and chocolate malt aroma - hint of charcoal. Very dark brown with moderate head. Charcoal, dark chocolate, and roasted wheat malt flavor. Mildly bitter herbal finish. A nice beer but tastes more like a schwarzbier/stout than a dunkelweizen - intensity of the malt covers up any phenols that might be present.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Draft pour at The Publican. Interesting hybrid style wheat beer with a dull chocolate malt taste. Slightly roasted note with a porter-esque mouthfeel. Interesting, falls off a little near the end but solid. Has a slight anise feel on the back end as this warms.

Rubied-black with a tall, oatmeal head.
Chocolate powder, roast aroma.
Taste is sweet, chocolate malt, cream.
Tasty....though more along the lines of a sweet porter.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
On tap, pouree into a pilsner glass / imperial pint hybrid. The aroma is a dominant roasted coffee with roasted grain. Itís a nearly opaque brown/black beet with a light fluffy head and a medium thick creamy ring. Thereís also a very light, runny lace consisting of micro bubbles. The taste is medium sweetness with a medium - light bitter quality. The texture is creamy, but light, and has a medium - full, rich, roasted body. This one has lots of soft carbonation helping it go down. A smoked grain finish is accompanied by a touch of burnt toast and some raisin sweetness. Its a mostly dry finish. The burnt grains linger in the aftertaste reminding you that it is, in fact, a wheat beer, and not a porter. The aftertaste does cling a bit

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Calling this beer a black wheat ale implies itís a dunkelweizen and this beer isnít even remotely on planet dunkelweizen. It is more of a porter or stout brewed w/ a lot of wheat in the grist. It does have the creamy texture of a Bavarian wheat beer but it has none of the bananas or cloves youíd expect in the aroma. This isnít a bad thing, thatís just how it is. I personally think this has a really nice nose w/ loads of roast coffee aromas. The wheat allows it to be thick and luscious on the palate w/o being too sweet but unfortunately this is a touch on the overcarbonated side for a beer w/ such a strong roasted grain presence. This is a pretty good beer overall. Fix the carbonation issue so you can taste a bit more nuance and I bet it would be great.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Pours an opaque black with a thin tan head. Nose is of dark roasted grains and a hint of chocolate. Rather thin viscosity, but nice and creamy on the palate. The taste is of dark roasted grain with suggestions of chocolate and molasses. Very lightly hopped, it finished with a mild dry touch. Pairs well with pastrami and rye.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
This pours a dark brown/black color with a slight, off-white head. The aroma is slightly robust with burnt starches and molasses. The taste is fairly heavy and complex. There is a lot of roasted flavor mixed with some coffee a slightly bitter hop finish. Pretty decent brew for being a newer brewery.

2.8 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Bottle @ Richardís Tasting. Dark brown pour with a khaki head. Aromas of roasted malt, coffee, and cocoa. Some ash, coffee, and a hint of graham cracker sweetness. Palate is bitter roasted malt and coffee forward. Ash, light sweetness of graham cracker, and some dark chocolate. A weird peppery note on the finish. Not bad, but not a very good Dunkelweizen.

1 AROMA 2/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 2/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 2/20
Very dark, black color. No wheat aroma at all. Taste is murky, thick, high viscosity. Over carbonated as well. Way, way too much of a good thing. This tastes like homebrew gone terribly wrong.
