Beyond The Bricks was created to celebrate our 2nd anniversary. Inspired by the Yellow Brick Road, Beyond The Bricks is a Belgian Style Golden Ale aged in Chardonnay barrels with apricots. Look for notes of wood, spice, and fruit. Beyond The Bricks pours blonde in color with a medium mouthfeel.

Poured from a bottle. Aroma is a balanced blend of fruit, phenolics and oak. Oak is moderate with a noticeable white wine character to it. A medium light peppery phenolic note that does not seem to cross over into plastic but gets close. Quite a bit of stone fruit with apricots being most prevalent but also some peaches and nectarines. Lighter red apple and pear. Bottle was indeed a gusher; very happy I glanced at the previous couple reviews. Pours a hazy, golden orange with a very large, pillowy, white head that exhibits impressive retention and does not seem to recede. High lacing and medium small legs. Flavor is slightly sweet with some candi sugar and light caramel notes and hints of pale malt. Light stone fruit notes as well as pear. Medium light phenolic note that is peppery with a bit of clove as well. Light oak and white wine character. Medium light bitterness and a dry finish. A hint of acidity and citrus. Some light honey notes too. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with rather high carbonation. Low astringency and low alcohol warmth. Overall, this is definitely past it’s peak but I only received it in a box last week so its not my fault. The aroma is still nice and fruity, but the flavor has turned away from the fruit and towards the phenolics and malt. Some light oxidation is showing through in the form of honey.

22 oz. bottle shared by phaleslu. Pours a hazy golden color with a large white head (they said it was a gusher). The aroma and flavor had citrus, apricot, some wine barrel character, wood, light funk, sweet malts, light spice, light plus bodied, on the dry side at the finish.

22 oz. bottle that gushed and gushed and gushed when opened. Yes, I acknowledge I sat on this too long, and now it’s about 15 months beyond bottling. Pours a hazy pale gold with a massive, frothy off-white head with colored yeast spots throughout. The glass is heavily laced by this. It’s a relief that the nose is still nice, with notes of apricot, plenty of funk, lemon zest, oak, and chardonnay. Flavor of ambrosia salad (thanks for injecting that in my brain, Alden!), chardonnay, sweet bread, funk, and oak. Light-medium bodied, with a dry, funky mouthfeel and high carbonation. I had no idea what to expect from this one; pretty good, interesting beer.

Sugary, ripe fleshy fruits (apricot, pineapple), a hint of white wine. Cloudy, dull gold color with a huge off-white head; bottle gushed upon opening. Sweet, just a tinge tangy, fruit cocktail, spicy Belgian yeast just before the semi-dry finish. Warming and a bit alcohilic as it warms. Medium-bodied, smooth. Actually, quite good and the apricot and wine/barrel. I like it.

Bottle... RBSG 2014... Clear yellow pour with a huge, frothy, white head. Fantastic retention. The nose is faint, so I can only pick up some breadiness and spiciness. Full-bodied and milky with modest carbonation. The flavor is fairly sweet and boozy with undertones of clove spiciness and yeasty breadiness. Not my thing. Well-brewed though.

Sampled at the RBSG 2014. It poured a hazy golden color with a white head. The aroma was yeasty, bready, fruity, hoppy and woody. The taste was similar with a long bitter finish. Nice.
