4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/2022oz bottle, one of 228. can’t quite remember where this came from but thank you! pours a deep, dark brown that sits black in the glass with garnet edges and a thin, whispy beige head. aroma is great with heavy whiskey, rye malt, toasted barrel, vanilla, and cocoa backed by burnt marshmallow, toffee, and cold coffee. flavor is delicious as well, albeit a bit brash, with a blast of fresh bourbon, barrel essence, wet earth, and toffee backed by dark chocolate, spent coffee grains, grape skins, and coconut oil with a touch of smoke on the back end. palate is medium bodied with light carbonation and a dry finish dominated by bourbon, dark fruits, and cocoa. overall, a damn nice barrel aged imperial stout that i’m glad to have tried.

Bottle shared by phaleslu. Bottled 10/1/12. Dark brown black color. Nice lace. Great woody, lightly spicy aroma. Big body. Smooth, lighter soft carbonation. Nice big chewiness. Big bitter taste, which is awesome, but a bit of a whiskey bite from that barrel. Nice huge bitter dark chocolate, bigger coffee, pleasant wood / spice barrel aromas. Some very light hints of dark fruit... Raisins, dates. Love the texture on this. Great barrel aged imperial stout, but just a bit hot.

22 oz. bottle from Wine and Cheese Place. Pours a deep brown, mostly opaque, with a small but lasting beige head. Big bourbon aroma, with notes of chocolate, coconut, caramel, vanilla, and oak. Some mild roast. The flavor, though, adds an element of earthy bitterness, not unlike what you’d find in a black IPA. Cool twist, and I know it’s from the base beer, a hoppy imperial stout. Medium-bodied, smooth, and bitter, with some balancing sweetness and moderate carbonation. This was really nice. Better than the Dry Fly Wheat Whiskey barrel version.

Pours dark brown with a small tan head. The aroma has lots of vanilla, cream, oak, smooth roast, dark berries and smooth whiskey. Medium / full body with a decent amount of carbonation. The flavor starts out with bitter roast, vanilla, coffee bitterness, whiskey and some spice. The finish is heavy on the vanilla, whiskey and coffee and is quite bitter. While the IBUs are around 65, the hops aren’t really that noticeable. Quite nice.
