COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This is one monster of a Brown Ale! We used an obnoxious amount of chocolate malt and roasted barley to give this beer a cast iron backbone. Our Oatmeal Brown pours a dark mahogany with aromas of dark chocolate and coffee.

((22oz bottle) clear medium brown, lasting creamy fine tan head. Nose is roasty, nutty, sweet cream, oats are apparent. Taste is bitter, roasty, cream, oats, sweet nuts and the bitter oils from nuts.

Bottle. Served in a snifter. Pours a dark brown, roughly the color of a deep porter, with a 1-inch creamy, tan head. Roasted malt and coffee aromas. Medium mouthfeel. Very strong roasted malt flavor, with the prevalent coffee flavor not far behind. Since American Brown Ales encompass such a wide range of flavors and approaches, it’s difficult for me to say that Four Hands has created a spot-on version of the style. Rather, their version reminded me of a marriage of coffee stout and porter. It also had more of a hop presence than I expected, which was a pleasant surprise. While this isn’t a brew that would become a “go-to” for me, it’s definitely a solid beer I’d drink again.

This beer has a medium off-white head and is a dark brown with an amber tint, and the aroma is strongly like oatmeal and slightly like chocolate, vanilla, and roasted malts. This beer is of a medium bitterness while being a little sweet, but the finish is long and hearty. Finally, the combination of the flat carbonation, medium body, and creamy texture are pleasing to the mouth.

Deep mahogany with a frothy, tan head. The aroma has a lot of chocolate mixed with caramel and faint coffee. It has a medium body with oily texture and lively carbonation. I was surprised to find that the taste is moderately bitter with a roasted, dry finish.

Pours darker brown that most brown ales and has a beige head. The aroma has heavy toast, cocoa, cola, moderate sweetness and hazelnuts. It has a medium body that’s on the smooth side, but gets a bit sharper on the finish due to carbonation, but is still gentle. The flavor begins with more bitterness than most brown ales with big roast/toast, coffee and spicy/earthy hops. The finish has more hoppiness, coffee bitterness and a lingering astringency. Pretty nice, but seems somewhere in between a brown ale and stout.

Chocolate, coffee, and nuts. Good mix. Oatmeal gives a nice texture. Well balanced. Dark brown.
