COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This is one monster of a Brown Ale! We used an obnoxious amount of chocolate malt and roasted barley to give this beer a cast iron backbone. Our Oatmeal Brown pours a dark mahogany with aromas of dark chocolate and coffee.

Dark brown, lasting head. Smell is coffee and caramel. Flavor is peat, cocoa, coffee. Very nicely balanced, prickly carbonation as opposed to slick in an oatmeal stout.

On tap at Bangers and Lace. Pours a near black with an earthy light brown head that dissipates to the edges. Aroma has a nice combination of coffee and roasted malts with a bit of dark grain backing. Flavor has a similar combination of roasted malts and coffee with a hint of bitter chocolate and a hint of dryness.

Draft at 4 Hands in a sampler tray. Pours a clear amber-brown color with a small, resilient off-white head. Aroma of toasty and chocolate malts, nuts, grains (from the oats, presumably), brown sugar, and some earthy hops. The flavor also showed those subtle earthy hops underneath a wide range of malts, toasty, sweet, and chocolaty, with faint coffee. Light-medium bodied, with a toasty mouthfeel and medium soft carbonation. Very good brown ale.

Taster on tap at the brewery during RBSG. Clear brown color. Thin off-white head. Decent lace. Nice nutty oaty aroma. Moderate earthy bitterness. Some cocoa nib. More dry taste, less sweet. Medium body. Smooth, kind of soft, lighter carbonation. Solid, sort of soft oatmeal brown.

Shared draft at the brewpub. Yes, itís brown, but has a definite reddish tinge, too. The aroma is of a nice chocolate malt. This drinks with a decidedly roasty base, ashy at the very finish. Carries with a little bit of a burnt edge. (#4505, 2/25/2012)

Draft on tap at the brewery (St. Louis, MO). RBSG 2014 Friday Bus Tour. Pours a deeper brownish hue, nice haziness, copper ruby glow on the bottom and edges. Frothy tannish head atop dies to a pleasing ring, nice stick around as a thicker ring, ok lacing. Aromas are gentle cocoa, carmelized malts and touches of toast, gentle roast, faint coffee. Initial is a bit toasty, medium bodied with a bit of caramel, toast, carmelization. Touches of chestnut, earth and decent roastiness. Middle is a touch sweet, gentle caramel and toffee meets some distinct carmelized elements, oatmeal sweetness. Backend is a bit dry, toasty and earthy. Solid Brown that isnít all that sweet, nice toast and carmelized elements. Solid.
