22 oz. black waxed bottle via local STL trade. Man, these 4 Hands labels are cool. Anyway, this pours a deeper amber color than the Home with a small off-white head. Notes of red wine grapes, brown sugar, toast, vanilla, dry leaves, oak, and toffee. Medium-bodied, with moderate carbonation and a mouthfeel that starts dry and malty and finishes vinous. A solid improvement on the base beer. Nice treatment.

Pours dark brown with a bit of crimson hue and is quite murky. The head is small, dense and tan. The aroma starts with barleywine caramel/toffee malt, thick doughiness, hints of dry red wine, oak and vanilla. Very rich and full. The body is pretty thick, but not as much as expected and has quite a bit of carbonation, but it doesn’t intrude on the flavors. Starts with much of the same notes as the aroma, but there is more fruitiness with stone fruits, berries and red grapes. There is also an earthy/woodiness that I’m not sure if it is from the barrel aging or the base beer. Finish has some warming alcohol and peppery notes. Overall this is another tasty offering from 4 Hands.

Sampled at DLD 2013. It poured a reddish/orange color with an off-white head. The aroma was of oak, wood, malts and some fruits. The taste was very tasty as the wine came through with some grapes, dark fruit, oak, hops and caramel. Very well done.

At the Dark Lord bottle sharing at the HamptonY Inn. Very dark red that’s looks brown. Beige head. Nose of roasted malts. Vanilla also. Bold body. Flavor rich and shows ripe fruit. Darn tasty. Hides alcohol

Sampled at the Hampton. Dark brown opaque. Rich malts dominate the nose. I taste funky fruits. Raisins are an example. Hops aren’t to be found but neither is alcohol. An interesting beer.

[Bottle, thanks phaleslu!] Pours deep red with a small beige head. Aroma is vanilla, oak, and a little raisin. Big oak presence in the taste, moderate alcohol, particularly after warming. Some acidic dark fruit (blackberry), and raisin. Decent mouthfeel, quite dry, good length finish although I’m not crazy about the taste in the finish (sort of a "flattened" malt). Overall, I enjoyed this beer. It didn’t blow me away, but very nice and glad to have been able to try it. Thanks again, Peter!

Pouring at the Night of the Barrels at Extreme Beer Fest. Pours a clear ruby amber with a thin white to beige head. Soft malt, toast on the nose. Spicy malt, toasty with a light sweetness. More malt into a gentle bitter finish with a touch of boozy alcohol coming through over more oxidization.

Thanks to PaulUnwin for sharing this one. Cheers, Paul! Pours a hazy red amber with an off-white head. Nose is some sweet malt followed by oak, some vinous tartness, some red grapes, and big vinous character. Flavor follows with sweet malt, lots of vinous notes, oak, and some grapes. Medium in body with lingering vinous character. Very nice overall.

On tap at 4 Hands Birthday Party. Pours a reddish brown color with off white head. Oak, bourbony, dark fruits, chocolate flavors. Tastes more like bourbon barrel aged than wine barrel aged. Interesting, but not mind blowing.
