Appearance: Bright yellow with a thick pure-white head. Head only lasts for an average amount of time, but leaves persistant lacing down the glass. Aroma: Strong, but not overpowering. Melon, citrus, a bit of malt, and some fresh almost noble type hoppiness. Taste: Light and refreshing, citrusy and a little sharp. A good amount of bitterness (claimed 22 IBU) to balance the malt. Nothing stands out as a fault, but not inspiring either. Mouthfeel: Quite light, reasonable carbonation, and a touch dry. Very well balanced. Overall: A well balanced, light, citrusy, sessionable, and morish ale. It doesn’t set out to break any boundaries, except maybe the boundary between macro and micro. Drinkers from both sides of the fence should be able to enjoy this drop. It is mild enough that the former won’t get an unexpected taste suprise, and interesting enough that the latter wont get too bored. My first 4-Pines brew, and I’m definitely going back to try their other offerings.

Bottle from wolf lane bar. Aroma of citrus, maybe some lemon and lime. Taste is much the same as the aroma. Simple beer with a nice crisp finish. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bif (1023) - St. Louis, Missouri, USA - NOV 16, 2012
Bottle- pours a slightly hazy light golden color with a good head that fades to some lacing. Fairly mild aroma of citrus, malt sweetness and grain. Taste of some malt sweetness with a bit of fruit and spice. Mild bitterness and a clean finish. Light body, smooth with just a bit of crispness and somewhat refreshing although a bit bland. A drinkable non-offensive offering for the style.

Jado (253) - Camp Hill, AUSTRALIA - NOV 11, 2012
Light amber-yellow body is capped with a large white head that dies down to a thin cap with lcing evident. Not much on the nose, a bit of fruit and maybe a little pepper. Taste is mainly citrus with a sweet undertone. Quite light with a short palate. While it’s not particularly interesting, it is nicely balanced and quite refreshing. Not bad, but not a real winner.

sweet citrus and slightly piney aroma (ironic for a brewery called 4 Pines) with a bit of malt when agitated, appearance is a straw coloured yellow with a fast-disappearing head, taste is quite watery with a touch of light malts and citrus, palate is very mild, with a touch of bitterness and not much feeling. Overall, pretty average Kolsch.

Pours yellow with a bit foamy white head. The aroma is light but malty and hoppy. Light body, taste of hops and citrus with a light bitterness the after taste. Would be a refreshing hot weather beer.

This is an Australian attempt at brewing the style made famous in the city of Kolsch. It has some subtle burnt aroma and flavour but fails to be anything more than a relatively dry lager style beer. It looks like a kolsch, it’s perfectly enjoyable as a session beer, but it’s not an interesting beer

To be fair I’ll put this in the re-rate bin!
Bottle, chilled. A lively pour produces a dense, compact satin-sheened pad of white. Medium gold body, good clarity, with very fine carbonation and a lot of it. Quite a pronounced nose but nothing I would deem enticing. Play-doh, brine, pine-needles, raw white bread dough and just a little pear fruit come through, the Play-doh dominant. Rubbery, phenolic mess in the mouth, something has gone askew. Acridly bitter in back, a carbonic acid bite sets the tone upfront with a long lingering plastic and Play-dohesque finish. Very light bodied but soapy in feel, I’d say this sample has gone a little post-bottling ’funky’. Could not finish! (33cL, no date stamp)
