3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 Niksko (11) - Melbourne, AUSTRALIA - MAY 20, 2012
Pours a very dark brown to black. A small amount of coffee brown head that fades quickly. No lacing. Nice malty aroma, with a little hint of chocolate and some smokiness. Palate is lovely and complex for a stout. The chocolate from the nose comes through, with beautiful coffee notes and some balancing hoppy bitterness. Texture is slightly oily. Carbonation is alright, but I generally feel that stouts are under carbonated and this is no exception. Finish is slightly bitter, but it doesn?t linger too long which is nice in this case. Also, a little residual sourness. Overall a nice, balanced stout.

Had on tap at 4 pines and in the bottle. Well made stout, great malt aromas of chocolate and coffee. Nice smooth taste and a good bitterness level throughout without being over the top.

At just on cool and out the bottle. Cap comes off with a swift burst with the beer to follow, so quickly into the glass it went. A lively, well conditioned, oily black with brown showing in the very shallows. Compact and tight is the tannish head, well retained with good legs. A waft of spiced chocolate mudcake grips the nose with hints of oak, yeast, vanilla and liquorice root. Soft, velvety and powdery mouthfeel, not big in body but shows good presence. Subtle peppery carbonation upfront otherwise it’s all smooth for the length. Bold, bitter malt swallow, rich dark chocolate all throughout with a touch of grapeskin astringency in there for good measure. Long linger of burnt wood, and topsoil, quite earthy, a little ash too. Malty mid-palate builds, light biscuity sweetness, chewy, with a touch of fresh cracked black pepper to keep it interesting. Quite dry otherwise, very sessionable though. This is a good Stout. Pleasing, refreshing, balanced. Nice!! (33cL, BB 13/07/12, Dan Murphy’s Currambine)
3.4 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 Sevenlee (535) - Central Coast, NSW, AUSTRALIA - FEB 6, 2012
Pours totally black with a beige head. Aroma is very weak but a moderate roastiness. Taste is also roasted malt with hints of chocolate and coffee leading to a small bitter finish. Not bad.
3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20 Maris (539) - Canberra, AUSTRALIA - DEC 11, 2011
From a 330ml bottle on 12/12/2011. Pours almost black with quite a big tan head. Has a pleasant aroma of chocolate and coffee. In the mouth, there’s a good dash of dark chocolate and lots of bitter roasted malt. Has a slightly creamy texture and a long finish. Just a really well put together stout, with great balance.
3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 Pyobon (566) - Sydney, AUSTRALIA - NOV 24, 2011
(Bottle) Poured opaque black - opaque not because it was cloudy, just because it is very black. Nice tan head. Pleasant aroma of chocolate, dark toffee and dried fruit with hints of fresh sawn wood. Smooth creamy mouthfeel with medium body and fine full carbonation. Strong start with dark chocolate, coffee and smokiness, moving through a slightly thin mid taste to a good bitter finish mixing hoppy bitterness and a lingering smokey burnt note. Overall an unusual beer that works well. Very dry with little in the way of sweetness or fruitiness, but is not unbalanced. Enjoyably different.
3.2 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 StuffWine (48) - Perth, AUSTRALIA - NOV 4, 2011
Poured coal-black with tan head (slow to form but went nuts after encouragement), lasted well. Aroma mild of toast and liqourice. Wow; taste suprised me: initial bit too mild of roast malt, but is followed by cocoa and coffee with a fine long and pleasant toasted nut finish. Very nicely balanced. Body medium, creamy with lively carbonation on tongue-tip. Price is good too, since not imported. 3/3/8/3/15.

Bottled, thanks baggio! Black, minimal head. Heavily roasty with asphalt and dark chocolate. Dry, firm and clean. Plenty of cocoa and tobacco-like finish. A solid stout with concentrated flavours.
