Sensuous buttery divinity…Caramel flows omnipresent it seems in the abode of the gods…A chocolate fog hangs luxuriously on the hop fields…The heaviest nectar known to this man…R.I.P. my friend…

UPDATED: AUG 12, 2005 Old bottle shared by Yowie at the Ratebeer Mondial tasting on 6/4/05. Ruby-magenta body with an amber-auburn tinge on the sides of the glass. Clear. Beige bubbles fizzle quickly to a ring. Smells of intense sherry, light hints of soy, thick, salty barley and black malt. Rich and decadent, I can smell what this beer must have been like. Flavor of earthy, dirty yeast. Scotch whiskey and rich toffee. No alcohol noted. Sweet honey-cream on the finish. Rich, lovely barley and a single-malt scotch finish supported by copious amounts of sweet toffee. Smooth, lightly creamy mouthfeel and a full body, with low carbonation. Reminds me of Thomas Hardys, which is a great thing.

Thanks to my best friend yowie for sharing this bottle. Pours a murky brown color with almost no head. Amazing, mind blowing, syrupy, vinous aroma and flavor of chocolate, caramel and alcohol with thick, heavy malt. Medium to full body (this beer used to have a fuller body but still it’s pretty thick), syrupy texture and soft carbonation. Amazing brew, to bad it’s not brewed anymore.

Ratebeer Mondial Gathering (tiggmtl). Torréfié, toffee, alcool, cerises, cognac et noix. Très complexe et bien balancée. Belle robe brune aux reflets acajou.

Dark clear brown ale with a thin moka head. Wonderful prunes in aroma, with brown sugar, hops and floral soy sauce. Just like candy! Blended malts and smooth butterscotch and hops. Rich and smooth in mouth. Merci mon clutant! Enjoyed at YEHa!05 Christmas Party on Dec. 17th, 2005.

Bottle. Deep brown in colour with a thin toffee coloured head, some lace. Stunning aroma of toffee, caramel, gingerbread, lots of chocolate, earthy and dark malts. The flavour was of caramel malt, quite sweet dark chocolate cake, buttery, toffee, earthy. Some very minor alcohol heat. Deeply roasty rich mouthfeel, medium body, medium carbonation. Finishes with a long caramel bitterness, slighly dry. Amazing stuff, I can only imagine what this was like fresh.

Huge, decadent, fruity malt aroma. Dark brown with brown head that recedes to a thick cover. Sweet, malty, fruity flavours with pleasantly roasty finish. Body is quite full without being thick or over-whelming. Enough carbonation to engage the taste buds. Hints of alcohol peek through but never come to the fore. Bottle (enjoyed with beerbuzzmontreal, MartinT and Rastacouere).
4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 Siroy (220) - Montreal, Quebec, CANADA - APR 1, 2006
A mostly lasting average frothy tan head tops up a very dark brown body. Moderate lacing. No particles. No bubbles. Aroma presents malt being moderate chocolate (the 90% cacao type) while hops are barely noticeable ... Yeast character is moderate fruitiness. Also, there are evident evocations of cherry , making the overall impression of a black forest cake. Some nuts overtones. Initial flavor is moderate sweet while development is a little more alcoholic. Finish is long . medium to full body... creamy texture... Soft carbonation...
Body has deteriorated a little over time, but it’s still very nice.

Bouteille vieillie environ 8 ans.

UPDATED: OCT 1, 2006 The legendary Corne de Brume. This beer has developed quite a cult following since Brasserie aux 4 Temps closed down many years ago. The last remaining 750ml bottles are sold for $$$ and we were lucky enough to have cathschlag get her hands on one. I don’t remember the taste of a fresh one so I can’t tell you how the years have changed it. What I can tell you though is that it tasted pretty good. Brown body with particles, average off-white head. At our tasting someone came up with Black Forrest Cake and I couldn’t agree more. Very strong aroma. I felt like I was drinking an alcoholised melted Black Forrest Cake (sour cherries, bitter black chocolate, sweet, creamy body, etc.). For the Budweiser drinking rednecks: a Black Forrest Cake is like a very fancy cherry-filled chocolate donut. 750ml bottle.
