Bottle at home. Pours black with off-white head that stays around. Aroma is of roasted barley and coffee. Those notes follow into the taste - roasted malts with espresso notes. Decent finish with lingering bitterness - I was impressed.

330ml bottle at home from carry out clongriffen. Pours black with beige head. Head lasts. Looks the part. Smoke, burnt malts, coffee, lactose nose. Flavour is smooth dark chocolate, burnt malts, coffee. Oily mouthfeel with medium carbonation. Nice medium body. Dry coffee finish. This a lovely porter for the abv. Loads of flavour to the end.

(33 cl bottle from Deveney’s Rathmines, Dublin; BBD: December 2015) Pours a dark brown with medium, creamy, tan head. Good retention and beautiful lace. Aroma is dominated by a nicely subtle note of roasted malt complemented by some more nutty hints. It has a certain likeness with brown ale but the toasted malt still plays the leading role here. As the beer warms it seems to reveal more complexity yielding hints of licorice, coffee and a subtle toffee. Oily texture, medium to light body, medium carbonation and a lingering, bitter finish from the roasted malt that doesn’t hold much ascerbicity. Flavour is nicely balanced with a dry, toasted bitterness as the predominant flavour note. Pleasant, very drinkable and quite interesting for the ABV.

12 oz. bottle from Molloy’s. Pours fairly thin and watery into the pint glass. More carbonation than I’m used to from a porter, which is not a good start. Traditional porter roasty toasty aromas, but again, a little thin, aroma is struggling to come out. Taste is again roasted malts, some nuttiness, thin watery and way over carbonated. Doesn’t hold up to the competition.

Keg @ 57 The Headline, Dublin [210114]
Fairly dark brown, bubbly off white head, looks more like a dark brown bitter, some lacing
Aroma - some burnt roast, some burnt coffee, not getting much else
Taste - soft roast, coffee grounds, dab of chocolate, taste better than aroma, rather average, little dull
Palate - Medium carb, bit too fizzy, fairly bitter. Finish as main flavour, fairly bitter roast, burnt finish
Overall - Didn’t engage one much, doesn’t really suit keg, not a big fan of this

ciaranc (845) - Dublin, IRELAND - DEC 7, 2013
330ml bottle. Very dark brown, almost black, huge rocky, foamy off white tan head, lasts and looks great. Light roasted barley nose, sour yeast notes, a bit of leather. Nice roasted malt notes in the flavour, dry and clean. Medium carbonation, maybe a touch too fizzy. light body. A little chewiness in the palate too. Simple, not too much of anything, but very nice. Finish is short and easy drinking.

Bottle at home from drinkstore
dark cola brown, roast barley and molasses on the nose. Medium carbonation, dry brown malt, some residual chocolate sweestness, very dry burnt toast, slightly astringent and red berries in finish. Better effort, a bit overcarbonated and lacking hops.

garthicus (2661) - Dublin, IRELAND - NOV 25, 2013
Bottle. Appearance: Pitch black, large thick tanned head. Aroma: slight chocolate, grassy, some very slight spice notes, lactose, some sourness too. Flavour: Thin mouthfeel, cereal and grass, sour, lactose again with a damp cardboard flavour and a sharp slightly coffee finish.
