5 Grass is a refreshing yet substantial beer that is pale in color and nicely hoppy. With this beer, we wanted to invoke the brisk, clean aroma of the desert. The recipe makes use of three unique hop varieties as well as some carefully chosen herbs and spices - juniper, sage, and Tasmanian pepperberry, among others - to give a beautiful outdoorsy scent. With itís smooth clean malt flavors and a unique, complex nose, 5 Grass is like a refreshing walk in the wide open spaces.

In Aztec mythology, 5 Grass was the symbol of life. In this worldview, nature is not inanimate, but is filled with life. Every bug, every flower, every plant is alive and filled with a spirit; each relies on everything around it to sustain and create a living world. 5 Grass invites us to reflect that we are a part of this web of life and that there are forces in nature that can intervene in our lives, which we are best served by knowing and respecting. By knowing nature, we come to know ourselves

12oz bottle from Andersons in Sylvania. Orange pour with thin off-white. Aroma is herbal and earthy. Tastes are burnt sugar, orange and a variety of spices. Strange.

This brew pours a copper-amber color with a medium foamy off-white head that recedes gradually. Sticky partial rings of lacing on the glass. Floral aroma with some malt and fruit in the background. Medium-bodied with flavors of herbal hops, roast malt and subtle chili peppers. The finish is peppery with a juniper and malt aftertaste. Slightly above average overall.

Crisp light copper and golden coloured body with a bit of a bronzed glow and a thin, half a centimetre tall tan head. Aroma of bright grassy and grapefruity hops with a pinch of malt and some light sugars noticeable as well. Medium-bodied; Assertive effervescence with a very mild hop flavour, some touches of malt and not much else at all - very bland and weak. Aftertaste shows some very mild sweetness and grassy hop notes, but not much to write of. Overall, a pretty poor offering that is bland, uninspired and very simplex - no deep flavours at all or anything after the first five seconds. I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from Binnyís in Chicago (South Loop), Illinois on 21-August-2013 for US$1.67 sampled at home in Washington on 04-November-2013.

Was expecting a little more hop to this one, considering the name. Pours a nice clear amber color. Spices really take the forefront here. Getting some savory ginger type notes. Some pepper two. A little metallic note as well. Tasty, just mis-named for me.

Tasted from a 12oz. bottle. Poured a rich amber with minimal carbonation and a frothy, off-white head. Spiced grass aroma. Not enough hops for the "Hoppy Ale" on the label. Had an unusual floral, grassy taste. Hard to describe, but Iím not a fan of this beer.

12oz bottle from one of the cousins from the barrio. Pours pale amber with offwhite head and decent lacing. Nose is caramel and grass. Sip introduces herbs and original flavors. Fairly sweet and not as hoppy as grass would suggest. Iím getting tropical high mountain vibes with a malty backbone. I keep sipping it and finding something new. Very interesting.

Draft from the Grand Slam stand at Great American Ballpark. Pours a cloudy dull orange with a small white head. Notes of juniper, sage, pepper, grass, florals, orange peel, and amber malts. Light-medium bodied, with a spicy, bitter mouthfeel and moderate carbonation. Interesting beer. The spices really stand out.
