3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Draft on tap at Bad Apple (Chicago, IL). Stopped in after picking up a bunch of Half Acre stuff for trades and drinking because I saw this bad boy was here. Pours a rich orange amber hue with healthy glow, deeper coloring, orange and copper and some fiery deep sunset. A touch dulled with frothy brighter white head that dies to a film, laces ok overall. Aromas are a bit muddled with touches of grass, bread, pale malts. A gentle earthy element grows, lively touch of cactus, faint lime, grass, peppery spice, earth, herbal quality dance in as it warms and breathes a bit more. Mellow touch of citrus. Initial is fairly interesting, offering lighter end of medium bodied on the palate with a touch of girth. Touches of bready malts, cereal grains, distinct earthy and lime element, rind, touch of brush, bitter dryness, gentle spice earthy pepper quality. Middle shows a touch of toast, growing dryness and a distinct biscuity malt sweetness. Moves back into a dry, earthy, and gentle spicy backend and finish. Earth, grass, brush and mellow spice, citrusy lime rind. A fairly unique experience with a good dryness and earthy quality up front, moving into that distinct malty middle and quickly out again into the finish, firm dry and bitter qualities, earthy spice and herbal qualities. Seems quite well constructed as an experience.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
12 oz. bottle. Aroma of juniper, grass, spice, mild smoke, some pepper, some earth. Definitely a different smell. Lots of pine and floral notes as well. Flavor of grass, pine, strong juniper. Very earthy. This is a quite different ale. Itís nice, though. Medium body, lively carbonation. This is certainly different. Interesting stuff here, guys.

3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Had this again recently and itís actually much better than I remember. Definitely tastes a bit like Iíd imagine a campfire would- woody, herbal, some heat on the back. Juniper and sage prevail, with a nice balance between booze, herbs, and carbonation. Enjoyed.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
On tap at the annual CBS picnic, and self served to clear plastic with a fairly clear, orangy amber hue, a nice bubbles & cream head, and wavy cling to the lacing. The aroma was interestingly herbal and spicy,(I immediately picked up on the juniper and sage) with some light grain and straw notes. The flavor was similar, maybe not as striking, adding a moderate bitterness that was lingering, earthy, and incorporated peppery, and dry characteristics. Light to medium bodied and well carbonated, I applaud the unique blend of herbs & spices, and couldnít have picked a better venue to display the beer. I agree with a Spice/Herb/Vegetable Beer label.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 15/20
12 ounce bottle shared and poured in a shaker glass. The aromas are abundant - I got a full whiff of the juniper, pine, and sage. It was reminiscent of a spice shop. On the one hand the appearance was a beautiful copper-red color, but on the other there were practically no suds on top and even less lacing and bubble flow in the glass... A warning of a problems later on. Taste was more juniper, pine, black pepper, and sage spices, cilantro, and some sort of vegetable medley. The palate on this one really dragged it down. It was medium bodied and would seem capable of carrying the fun flavor package, but the lack of carbonation or sizzle made it all fall a little flat. Without the bubble action, the tastes unfortunately struck me as artificial. Overall, a decent and different beer thatís worth a try at least once, and would probably go well paired up with barbacoa, as pointed out on the bottle (those glassware and food pairing tips on the labels are always appreciated).

Draft from the Grand Slam stand at Great American Ballpark. Pours a cloudy dull orange with a small white head. Notes of juniper, sage, pepper, grass, florals, orange peel, and amber malts. Light-medium bodied, with a spicy, bitter mouthfeel and moderate carbonation. Interesting beer. The spices really stand out.
