COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
5 Grass is a refreshing yet substantial beer that is pale in color and nicely hoppy. With this beer, we wanted to invoke the brisk, clean aroma of the desert. The recipe makes use of three unique hop varieties as well as some carefully chosen herbs and spices - juniper, sage, and Tasmanian pepperberry, among others - to give a beautiful outdoorsy scent. With itís smooth clean malt flavors and a unique, complex nose, 5 Grass is like a refreshing walk in the wide open spaces.

In Aztec mythology, 5 Grass was the symbol of life. In this worldview, nature is not inanimate, but is filled with life. Every bug, every flower, every plant is alive and filled with a spirit; each relies on everything around it to sustain and create a living world. 5 Grass invites us to reflect that we are a part of this web of life and that there are forces in nature that can intervene in our lives, which we are best served by knowing and respecting. By knowing nature, we come to know ourselves

Draft. Poured a clear brown color with an average frothy off-white head that mostly lasted with good lacing. Moderate to heavy earthy hop, and over the top herbal aroma. Medium body with a dry smooth texture and soft carbonation. Medium bittersweet flavor with a medium herbal bittersweet finish of moderate duration. Not my style.

Bottle at Trattoria 10 in Chicago....pretty hip place for a craft beer. Anyway, it was sort of a disappointment. Very mild hop nose and initial taste....some interesting tastes...guess thatís the Tasmanian pepperberry....but overall without a major APA nose or taste...

Smells are creamy and smooth, almost canít describe it. Yes, from the first taste I say its creamy too! One of the more really creamy beers Iíve had for a while. Good creamy overall beer experience, yes creamy. Weirdly creamy, but interesting and fun. Liked this.

Draft at Dutchís in July 2012. Pours a clear amber color with a large yellowish off white head. The aroma and flavor had big herbal/spicy notes; sage, some peppery notes, grass, some toasted malts. The finish had moderate bitterness without much other flavor.

This beer was pretty good. However it was a little too hoppy for my tastes.

Bottle shared by hopicide, thanks for the opportunity Todd! Hazy golden color with a huge coriander and other spice aroma. Sweet malty with a spice edge to the flavor. Interesting beer, but a bit high on the spice scale for my tastes.

Not much aroma. Clear orange with a white foam. Taste is very grassy & herbal. Not what I was expecting. Good carbonation. Generally not a flavor I enjoy. Definitely a unique beer. More beer please...
