COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Oaxacan-Style Dark Ale brewed with piloncillo sugar and chile ancho. 5 Vulture is a deep amber-colored ale with complex caramel aromas with toasted sugar notes and a long, elegant spicy finish. Roasted ancho chile is used to add depth and complexity, without adding heat or strong chile flavors.

Brown pour with a tan head. The aroma has some brown sugar, toffee and some odd vegetable notes. The flavor makes the beer taste really old. I get something that tastes like plastic or silly putty. Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation.

From the tap poured a dark amber color with a small amount of head. Strong malty flavor with a lingering finish.

The cool, damp night was a welcome relief. The scorching sun had roasted everything within reach. The buzzards that flew overhead all afternoon had nested with their bellies empty. If it was a tavern, it was long abandoned. The barkeep had a dressing wrapped around his head at least three times, covering one eye and creating enough padding to keep his Stetson firmly in place. With his one eye and one nod, he welcomed the company. Two towns west he used to be a farmhand; one town west he was a road merchant; here, he sat in the dark. It was warmer inside but dryer than the night air because the doors and window shutters were always closed. When asked if it was to keep others out or keep him in, he grew angry and thundered incomprehensibly. Rather than face isolation, he deliberately calmed and feigned interest sparged with dry humor. Every wrinkle on his filthy visage was an evaporating river threatening to finally reveal the countless skeletons of every drowning. He was perhaps gregarious as an expectation, but never a preference. Itís as if we place ourselves amidst anguish and tease a fury ready to manifest as an assault on what is expected of us rather than what we want. Facing the shelves of empty bottles, he rubbed the back of his neck hoping to wipe away perspiration but only shook off flaking skin he had been shedding for years. Proprietors and squatters know the tales but money only tells one story. The buzzards tell the rest.

Tap. Dark blood-brown. Scattered lacing. Malty nose. Notes of rye, caramel, very mild booze quality. Surprisingly refreshing.

An aroma of tobacco, dark fruit, some apple. Appears nearly opaque dark brown, white head, a lot of lace. Tastes of sweet tobacco, like a mild cigar, some dark chocolate, a hint of vanilla followed with a lingering charred malt bitterness. Palate is fizzy and mouthfilling. Overall, very good; reminds me of a stronger Dragonmead Crusader.

Great color, a aftertaste of slightly spicy ness. Aroma was tame. Overall it was above average , but not one of my best. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle @ home, courtesy of TheAlum. Thanks Adam! Pours an orangish brown appearance with a thin tan head. Chocolate and veggie aroma. Some cinnamon / chili spiciness. Kind of thin body. Spicy, minty chocolate, celery flavor. Pretty sweet. Low bitterness. Gross.

[Bottle] Dark brown pour and with a small dark brown head. Sweet brown sugar and caramel nose. Taste is of sweet caramel and molasses. Mild grass and lingering residual sweetness in the finish. Not much heat from the ancho. OK overall. Tasting notes from 2/2014.

My first and definately my last sample of this brew. I guess Iím not much of chile ancho fan. WIsh I could say better about it since it is my home state.

Darker beer, maybe a muddy brown with a little dirty tan head. Aroma is a light alcohol and maybe some malty. Flavor is more malty than burned, which I appreciate. But itís still not quite my cup of hoppy IPA.
