COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Oaxacan-Style Dark Ale brewed with piloncillo sugar and chile ancho. 5 Vulture is a deep amber-colored ale with complex caramel aromas with toasted sugar notes and a long, elegant spicy finish. Roasted ancho chile is used to add depth and complexity, without adding heat or strong chile flavors.

Poured from the bottle of a six pack into a pint glass, smells sweet like malt, good negra. As is with most good cooking when anchos are used the spice makes an appearance about 15 seconds after the drink and makes a spicy and salty mouth feel that makes one instinctively take another drink. I always use a bottle of beer in my chili and Iím saving the 6th from this pack for my next one, canít wait.

Better than its 44 point rating if you ask me. Dark brown color. Aroma is malty, similar to a porter. Taste is similar to a lighter porter, malty, chocolate, with a tiny bit of sourness, very little hops and a tinge of chile spiciness, but not very much. Itís OK.

Picked up a 12 oz bottle at Trader Joeís and thought Iíd give it a whirl. Poured into a pint glass. Pours a cloudy dark brown with a tiny bit of head that is gone within 10 seconds. Aroma is malty and a bit spicy. Kind of like graham crackers but with a hint of the ancho chili near the end. Taste is sort of muddled. Itís a malt forward beer with weird vegital flavors and a hint of pepper that goes away quickly. It leaves sort of an unpleasant aftertaste as it sticks to your mouth. Iím not really a fan of this one.

Sort of reminds me of a porter, or like a watered down version of Huna? Nice really. Better than expected. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle. Dark ruby maroon color, bright tan head, a nice looking beer. Aroma of freshly roasted peppers, dark cocoa. Taste is hi carbonation espresso with an edge of heat. Light body.

Brown pour with a tan head. The aroma has some brown sugar, toffee and some odd vegetable notes. The flavor makes the beer taste really old. I get something that tastes like plastic or silly putty. Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation.

From the tap poured a dark amber color with a small amount of head. Strong malty flavor with a lingering finish.

The cool, damp night was a welcome relief. The scorching sun had roasted everything within reach. The buzzards that flew overhead all afternoon had nested with their bellies empty. If it was a tavern, it was long abandoned. The barkeep had a dressing wrapped around his head at least three times, covering one eye and creating enough padding to keep his Stetson firmly in place. With his one eye and one nod, he welcomed the company. Two towns west he used to be a farmhand; one town west he was a road merchant; here, he sat in the dark. It was warmer inside but dryer than the night air because the doors and window shutters were always closed. When asked if it was to keep others out or keep him in, he grew angry and thundered incomprehensibly. Rather than face isolation, he deliberately calmed and feigned interest sparged with dry humor. Every wrinkle on his filthy visage was an evaporating river threatening to finally reveal the countless skeletons of every drowning. He was perhaps gregarious as an expectation, but never a preference. Itís as if we place ourselves amidst anguish and tease a fury ready to manifest as an assault on what is expected of us rather than what we want. Facing the shelves of empty bottles, he rubbed the back of his neck hoping to wipe away perspiration but only shook off flaking skin he had been shedding for years. Proprietors and squatters know the tales but money only tells one story. The buzzards tell the rest.

Tap. Dark blood-brown. Scattered lacing. Malty nose. Notes of rye, caramel, very mild booze quality. Surprisingly refreshing.
