Pours amber brown with a light tan head and unpleasant grainy aroma. Taste is of grains, malt, and caramel but overall doesn’t come together nicely while I dot get any chili. Not a good tasting craft beer

Dark amber pour, no head. Nose is grainy and not very agreeable. Taste is grainy and actually quite rancid. Could not finish it. Would rather drink a lager ! Please ! Quaff Score 2 / 10

Bottle at coles in Chicago. Deeper amber pour, medium bodied. Caramel, molasses notes upfront with pepper/chili heat towards finish that lingers on the palate. Ok

Bottle from ck1, thanks bro! Pours an amber-brown with almost no head. Faint lacing. Aroma has sweet caramel, peat and rum raisin. Taste is sweet caramel, molasses, simple sugar and some vegetalness. Medium bodied and very sweet. Down through the glass, there is some presence of the chiles; more from a late burn than actual flavor. Very sweet and sticky. Finishes sweet with a light burn, and sweet. Hmmm. So sweet as to be undrinkable, although the chiles do help dry it out.

Dark amber pour with a medium light beige head that recedes steadily. Strings of lacing on the glass. Aroma of malt, caramel and dark fruits. Medium-bodied with flavors of caramel malt, peppers and figs. The finish is malty up front with a mild peppery aftertaste. Slightly above average overall.

Aroma is pale lager sweetness with a hint of spice. The flavor is similar to the aroma with a bit more spice and mixed with a slight tartness in the finish.

Tasted from a 12oz. bottle. Poured a rich, dark brown with a tan head. Mild malt and spice aroma. I’m a pepper fan so I like the hit of Ancho Chilli. It’s an unusual beer, but it works for me.

Bottle purchased at Ale Wine & Spirits in Powell. Clear reddish brown pour with a medium tan head. Aroma of malt, caramel, lager yeast and peppers. Malty and caramelly flavor with some toffee and a slight peppery finish.

jstraw (1936) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - MAR 3, 2013
UPDATED: MAR 4, 2013 Clear, dark red-amber with good, foamy, beige head, modest legs / Mild, toasty nose of dark caramel, chile, and tobacco / Light to medium body, zesty carbonation, some sweetness and stickiness, modest hopping, with lots of spicy heat on the finish / Mild flavors of dark caramel (cola), molasses, and chocolate, with vague vegetal notes underneath / Lacks sufficient ale character, making this seem more of a Marzen with cayenne pepper added.
