Bottle from Capone’s. Pours clear dark brown with ruby edges and a 2-finger tan head. Nose is brown sugary malt, mild hops, earthiness, nuts. Tastes malty, with hops, vinous fruit, earthy chile as it warms. Unique, and the peppers emerge more late, and work pretty well with this.
3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 Ughsmash (6723) - Waukesha, Wisconsin, USA - DEC 5, 2012
Bottled. Poured deep garnety-amber with a tall, creamy, well-retained eggshell head. The aroma picked up toasted biscuits and rye bread with accents of sweet cocoa and toasty chiles.. too much sugar in the end for me. The flavor found sweet caramel and lesser cocoa at the core with toasted chilis and vanilla around.. finished with a pinch of peppers and raw, earthy sugar. Light-medium bodied and sweet on the palate.. the chilis helped interesting it up, but it was far from great.
3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 Dogbrick (6178) - Columbus, Ohio, USA - MAY 14, 2013
Dark amber pour with a medium light beige head that recedes steadily. Strings of lacing on the glass. Aroma of malt, caramel and dark fruits. Medium-bodied with flavors of caramel malt, peppers and figs. The finish is malty up front with a mild peppery aftertaste. Slightly above average overall.
2.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 BBB63 (5423) - La Porte, Indiana, USA - MAY 19, 2012
Tap @ Monk’s Pub: Deep amber, nearly brown with golden highlights, fading head but good lace. The aroma has notes of caramel, burnt sugar, pepper, some prune and raisin, herbal, flowery and a bit wierd. The taste starts roasty with lots of caramel and butterscotch sweetness. Some wet graininess and herbal veggie overtones. Light spice and ashy tones upon the finish but not enough the clean up the palate from the Diacetyl and Dimethyl Sulfides found lurking about. The mouth feel is moderately carbonated, pretty smooth (too smooth for a brew with Ancho Chiles if you ask me) with a ashy finish. Meh, I fully expected more, either step up and give us a spicy beer or do not waste my time.
3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 Cornfield (5276) - Oak Forest, Illinois, USA - FEB 25, 2012
A handsome looking beer, having a clear chestnut body with a creamy beige head and sheets of lace, this ale has a soft caramel and bread aroma complemented by a light chili spiciness. The flavor has the addition of a toastiness and the mild ancho chile serves to balance the malty sweetness. Any heat from the peppers serves as a quiet afterthought. Nice.

Decent dark ale. Anchos are mild, add a nice fruity and dark tone. Not terrible.
