Bottle at Uncle. Pours a cloudy brown with small beige head. The aroma is roast, chocolate, caramel. Medium mouth, very sweet, spice, earthy malt, bitter finish, decent.

Head is initially small, frothy, light brown, mostly diminishing.
Body is dark brown.
Aroma is moderately malty (chocolate syrup, caramel), with a note of vanilla, hint of cherry.
Flavor is moderately sweet, lightly acidic, lightly bitter.
Finish is lightly to moderately sweet, lightly acidic, lightly to moderately bitter.
Medium body, watery texture, lively carbonation, lightly alcoholic.
A very simple, flabby/watery, sugary porter. No apparent heat (or odor) from the chiles.

Apparence: La couleur est brune-noirâtre. Présence d’un mince col beige mousseux et d’une fine dentelle sur le verre. Saveur: Goût d’épices avec une pointe de chocolat et de céréales grillées. Durée moyenne de l’arrière goût. Palette: Le corps est moyen avec une texture légèrement onctueuse. Moyenne effervescence en bouche. Légère présence d’épices en arrière goût. (Rating #6403)

Tallahassee, Fl - New Leaf Market - 12 oz bottle. Pours a lazy dark brown, little to no head. Aroma has some interesting earthy notes with some peppers and topsoil. Flavor is earthy as well with some bittersweet baker’s chocolate, some peppery accents, a touch of day old black coffee. Mouthfeel has a decent thickness to it. Not half bad.

Sampled on tap at Map Room (Chicago, IL). Pours a nice darker amber pour, touches of brown with a good frothy decent sized whitish head. Laces small, sticks around decent sized in the end. Aromas are touches of brown sugar, caramel and toffee malts, with biscuits, a touch of toast, and a minimal pepper spiciness that touches on the end. Initial is sweter up front, mellow bready and biscuity malts, a lighter end of medium bodied with a touch of sugar, faint pepper which only lingers in the finish, just minimally with a touch of heat. Touches of crisp malts and light sweetness linger on, light toast, faint pepper. A simple fairly clean beer with just light peppery spice sticking on the palate after the finish. Surprisingly, this beer grows on me. A bit of a fuller Amber ale, with good lively freshness, not too sweet, quite drinkable with a touch of heat in the finish that grows a bit. Simple yet quite, pepper scores some point on the backend as opposed to getting to sweet in finish.

Tap @ Monk’s Pub: Deep amber, nearly brown with golden highlights, fading head but good lace. The aroma has notes of caramel, burnt sugar, pepper, some prune and raisin, herbal, flowery and a bit wierd. The taste starts roasty with lots of caramel and butterscotch sweetness. Some wet graininess and herbal veggie overtones. Light spice and ashy tones upon the finish but not enough the clean up the palate from the Diacetyl and Dimethyl Sulfides found lurking about. The mouth feel is moderately carbonated, pretty smooth (too smooth for a brew with Ancho Chiles if you ask me) with a ashy finish. Meh, I fully expected more, either step up and give us a spicy beer or do not waste my time.

sample at mondial de la bière 2015 - mtl. unclear dark golden with a small off-white cap, some retention and lacing. spicy burnt caramel maltiness, spicy chilies - fresh but still leaving a vegetal matter taste; lightly smoked red berries, salt and other minerals. light carbonation, light body, semi-sweet spicy chili-tingling finish. not chili overdone but unilayered burnt caramel. o-k.

Brown pour with a tan head. The aroma has some brown sugar, toffee and some odd vegetable notes. The flavor makes the beer taste really old. I get something that tastes like plastic or silly putty. Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation.
