COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Oaxacan-Style Dark Ale brewed with piloncillo sugar and chile ancho. 5 Vulture is a deep amber-colored ale with complex caramel aromas with toasted sugar notes and a long, elegant spicy finish. Roasted ancho chile is used to add depth and complexity, without adding heat or strong chile flavors.

Draft at Maria’s Party. I’ve been waiting months to try this and was sadly underwhelmed. Pours a reddish brown, clear, with minimal head that dissipates. Nose is lightly sweet, faint cocoa and just a hint of smoke. On taste, flavors are quite subtle. Slight warming, light smokey chiles. It could really use more depth of flavor here as it just seems undwhelming. Okay, but far from great.

On tap at Fountainhead. Pours dark murky brown with small head. Aromas of chocolate and caramel with some faint spices. Flavors of caramel, dark malts, chocolate, some earthy spices. Did not really pick up any of the heat or smoke I was hoping for. Bit disappointing.

Poured from 12 oz into shaker. Color was brown amber with a tan head. Aroma was caramel with the hint of spice that it was brewed with. Taste was malty follow with the chili spice but not over powering. The flavors are very balanced. The adds a nice zing but overall the beer is neither exciting or thrilling

Draft served in a pint glass at Bakersfield. Pours a deep, mostly clear amber color with a tiny off-white head. Aroma of caramel, toasted chocolate and brown sugar, dried leaves, and very mild ancho chiles. The flavor is the same. Light-bodied, with a malty, earthy mouthfeel that isn’t spicy until late. Low-to-moderate carbonation. Went well enough with our Mexican food.

Bottle from ck1, thanks bro! Pours an amber-brown with almost no head. Faint lacing. Aroma has sweet caramel, peat and rum raisin. Taste is sweet caramel, molasses, simple sugar and some vegetalness. Medium bodied and very sweet. Down through the glass, there is some presence of the chiles; more from a late burn than actual flavor. Very sweet and sticky. Finishes sweet with a light burn, and sweet. Hmmm. So sweet as to be undrinkable, although the chiles do help dry it out.

12 oz. bottle. Pours a hazy amber brown color with a medium sized off white head. The aroma and flavor have toasted malts, mild caramel notes, light peppery spice, and a hint of earth. Not too bad, but wouldn’t seek out again.

Light red amber pour from 12oz bottle. White thin head. Prune and juicy flavor. Sweet also. Not bad

Bottle. Somewhat thin looking deep brown body with reddish highlights and a big tan fluffy head. Aromas are nuts, toffee, roast and a little vegetable matter (ancho?). Flavor is sweet and dusty with a little bit of smokey heat in the finish. Not much, but it is there. The sweetness is distracting though, and the whole beer comes across as a little under attenuated in my book.

Better than its 44 point rating if you ask me. Dark brown color. Aroma is malty, similar to a porter. Taste is similar to a lighter porter, malty, chocolate, with a tiny bit of sourness, very little hops and a tinge of chile spiciness, but not very much. It’s OK.

Well, anything featuring a buzzard on the label can’t get high marks for appearance. Dark brown with fine carbonation. Malty, doughy aroma with some acidity and roast. Tangy, brown sugar and molasses tones, slow burn spicy. Slightly heavy body. Standard 12 oz longneck. New Leaf Market.
