Gringolandia is an affectionate term used by many Latinos to refer to the United States. We’re using the term to paint a picture of our collective 5 Rabbit experience as a Latin-based company in the exciting melting pot that is 21st century Chicagoland, and to brew beers that reflect that experience. It’s our tribute to the American craft beer movement.

After staking out our Latin credentials with several exciting, ingredient-based beers in the “5″ series, we felt it was time to expand our range. These beers are our own interpretations of some popular craft beer styles, changed up a little to make them our own distinct beers different from anyone else’s.

Super Pils is a classic pilsner character in a big, bold beer that drinks like an IPA. Euro-pils character, but bolder. Cool-fermented with our house ale yeast for a clean, smooth flavor with just the barest hint of fruitines. Perfect balance of malt and hops in classic pils fashion—just stronger. Unfiltered for better body and foam.

An excellent Pils! Most Ratebeer members favor the heavier beers, especially IPAs and Imperial IPAs. So, the lighter beers (Pils, lagers and wheats) never seem to rate as high as heavier beers. Do not be deceived by the ratings, Gringolandia Super Pils is an excellent Pils. A bold, clean, crisp beer with a hint of fruit. I almost made the mistake of not trying this beer due to lower ratings, but my local package store clerk strongly recommended Gringolandia. A great beer.

Bottle @ Jungle Jim’s / Eastgate OH --- Clear medium amber, white head cover, sheets of lace. Taste is straight malt that adds solid carbonation on the swallow, then moving. To strong floral hops for a long finish. Pretty straightforward, although there are hints of grass and of light ice.

Pour is a clear yellow with a large white head. Aroma is sweet syrupy malt with a bit of malt liquor like adjunct filler. Flavor is again a heavy sweet malt with a bit grassiness but finishes with some corn syrup thick sweetness. It does not have a horrible taste or aftertaste. It’s just a heavy, sweet, thick malt. I don’t get Impy pils as a style.

Big foamy head, darker and maltier than your average lager, with a slight sweetness. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle poured a clear gold with a lasting white head. Aromas of bread, citrus and light yeast. Palate was light bodied and crisp with a dry finish. Flavors of straw, light citrus and light spice with a crisp dry finish.

Draft pour. The beer is a clear gold with a white head. The aroma has grassy, herbs, dried fruit, and some light bandaid. The taste is fairly bitter and herbal throughout. It gets a little resinous. Medium body and medium carbonation. It gets a bit astringent, but is still mostly drinkable.

12 oz single bottle from Molly’s Spirits. Yellow gold appearance with a white head. Mild aroma of pale malt, hop spice, floral notes, light herbs and light fruity esters. Similar flavor, moderate hop bitterness, a touch of fruity malt sweetness and a light dry, lingering bitter finish. Medium body with a pretty crisp and clean feel.

12oz bottle. Pours light orange with a fizzy white head that never dissipates. Lots of carbonation bubbles. Aroma is of wheat, malt, earth, and hops. Taste is of wheat, lemon, grass, and slight hops. Has a bready malt backbone. Has a slightly medicinal alcohol taste that takes a few sips to get over. Lingering earthy hop flavor. Mouthfeel is light and slightly soapy. Body is medium and very carbonated. Aside from the alcohol flavor, its not a bad beer. Drinks easy, and it warms you up.

Pours a slightly hazy yellow with a full retentive white head. Aroma is lemon and grass. Taste is sweet pale malt, bread dough and a slightly off putting medicinal taste that I believe is the initial stages of oxidation. Hop taste is good; not overly bitter and with a grassy character. ABV shows up only as a bit of warmth after the swallow. Not bad; if anything it has a problem with balance.

UPDATED: APR 7, 2015 12oz bottle poured into a shaker. The aroma is citrus sweet and sugary with secondary notes of honey and a light pie crust. It’s an oily looking, murky yellow-honey beer with a bit of thin white head that has a spotty retention and only a touch of lace. The taste is a medium sweet and medium bitter sweet dominant up front with a strengthening bitter at the end. The beer is syrupy slick with a light fuzz cabonation and a surprisingly medium body. There are flavors of dough, grapefruit, mango, and honey on the tongue with a finish that’s bitter citrus and mineral with a light spice. The aftertaste is waxy citrus; sharp, but brief.

5 Rabbit Gringolandia Super Pils is bolder than a regular pils, but definitely in the same category. Moderate aroma rising from an amber pour with ample head. Taste is bold with a nice hop floral. The higher ABV is not noticeable in the taste but it does creep up on you. There is a slightly odd finish to this beer that I have also noticed in other 5 Rabbit beers. Can’t place it, but will update if I have an epiphany. Super Pils might be super compared to a regular pils, but just a little above average brew otherwise.
