Dickinsonbeer (2513), Hoboken, New Jersey, USA Apr 26, 2006 Tap at the 5 seasons. Not many brewers make a belgian brown ale, and even the ones from Belgium arent that mindblowing. This, however, was really great, and different. Pours a nice deep brown with a good fluffy tan head and nice lace in the snifter. Aroma is of spices, phenols banana and other fruity esters, ripe apple, prunes and raisin. Malty sweet flavor with more phenols toward the end. Sweet candied fruits, apricots, plum and more raisin. Smooth and yeasty, but not dirty or harsh. This was a great belgian interpretation of a belgian brown- better and smoother than Corsendonk.
BlackDonald (1040), North Carolina, USA Jun 4, 2008 Pretty walnut brownish color, with a tight off white bubbly head. Hints of fruit and spice in the aroma, predominantly nuts and dates. The palate has some great spiciness, a hint of yeasty characters in the form of cloves, and a bit of dark fruit in the finish. Lively carbonation and a satisfying mouthfeel, well balanced and smooth. willblake (1927), Long Branch, New Jersey, USA May 1, 2008 20071216 Bottle, 2005, shared at Madness with the Moose v.2. Plenty of estery Belgian yeast notes. Earthy hops, bag o’grain. A bit thin but could be a nice quaffer. beerguy101 (3473), Newark, California, USA Mar 29, 2008 Tasted at the February Nor Cal Beer Tasting. This Belgian brown ale poured a deep brown color. Medium sized white foamy head. The aroma is fruity, spicy and sweet. A medium bodied Belgian brown ale. The malts are fruity and sweet. Seems a bit more spicy than fruity. Very lively carbonation. Mouthfeel is full. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly spicy. stoutlover72 (1321), NorCal, California, USA Feb 26, 2008 NorCal Feb ’08 - Not sure if I’ve ever had a beer from 5 Seasons (always thought there were only 4....maybe the 5th season is beer season) but this was okay. The beer looked to be bottled by the brewery, no lable just a tag that says it was bottled in 2005. The beer pours out cloudy rich brown body, two finger head. A bit of fruitcake in the nose, caramel, light fleshy fruits, maybe some honey. Mouthfeel had that overcarbonated feel I don’t enjoy in most Belgians. Flavor is suprisingly piney, with a nice touch of spiciness that overlays the pine. Spices take over about mid-palate with a clean nutty finish. Nice beer. jcwattsrugger (3862), Florida and, New Jersey, USA Feb 17, 2008 ‘05-bottle @Mels YEHA-pours a light tan head and amber color. Aroma is medium malt-caramel, spice. Taste is medium malt-caramel, spice, secondary earthy/slight metallic hops.
