COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
aka The Dreaded Crossthreaded Wee Heavy
This beer was a joy to brew. We started with Golden Promise barley, a strain of barley only grown in Scotland and used by the world's great single malt scotch distillers. We then smoked some barley over a peat fire out back. The peat was shipped directly from Ireland. The smoked malt adds a peaty, earthy (and smoky) depth and complexity to the beer. The beer is then allowed to age, or lager, for over a month at 32 degrees in order for the flavors to really come together.
It would have been pouring a week earlier if a piece on the serving tank had not broken.
That was quite obviously Dennis' fault. I would never have crossthreaded that piece. Never.

Tap @ the 5. Poured a crystal clear deep ruby amber color with a medium off-white head. The aroma was malty and semi-sweet. Some raisins and a light-moderate peat. the flavor was sweet and malty with some dark fruit and a moderate amount of peat. Medium body.

smokey dark fruit aroma comes on stronger, body appears a bit thiner with the reduced carbonation, sweetness has dried out and taken some of the ripe fruit with it, I’ll take the regular over the cask,

On tap in late May ’07: Pours a transparent orange copper with a nicely-lacing off-white head. Smoky, earthy toasty dry caramel malty aroma has a mild smoky peaty touch. Body starts with decent viscosity and good sweet toasty caramel with nice smoky grassy earthy flavor and a drier, lightly fruity finish. Very true to style and enjoyable.

This has been an absolute pleasure to consume this tasty beverage! I have most recently had this as the 5SN Thursday Cask Offering... Perfect! Dark Purplish Hue. Light smoke in the aroma. flavor is the most complex that I’ve had a the 5SN so far. Killer brew, Definitely my favorite.
