ChainGangGuy (1511), Kennesaw, Georgia, USA Jul 11, 2008 Appearance: Dark brown, near black body topped off with two inches of creamy, beige-colored foam.
Smell: Roasted, dark malts with notes of scorched grains, unsweetened chocolate, anise, and oak. Not picking up too terribly much in the way of rum, though.
Taste: Dark malts with a full, ramped up roastiness. Restrained sweetness. Light underlying oakiness with minor hints of dark rum. Medium earthy bitterness. A few flecks of English toffee. A taste of licorice develops upon warmin. Drying, roasty finish.
Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied. Mild carbonation.
Drinkability: Not nearly as rum-soaked as I had hoped, but, for what it’s worth, I say that about everything: books, OJ, cat, peanuts.
