COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The next installment in the Serenade Series, this high gravity saison was brewed, fermented and conditioned to the tunes of one of the greatest jazz groups of all time, Shakti, who first fused western jazz and classical Indian music. The yeast got real funky - as did the brewer. It is brewed with Maris Otter floor-malted barley, German wheat malt, some specialty grains and turbinado sugar in the kettle. It was spiced with cardamom and grains of paradise, while the Belgian yeast itself produces an extremely complex flavor profile of tropical fruit, earthy, spicy notes.

Tap at 5 Seasons North. Pours a slightly hazy woody light brown with a lasting off white head. Aroma is herbaly vegetal and spicy- with peppery pheolic spices like cardamon and black pepper with a bready malt character. Bready malts turn a bit to crackeryness in the flavor as the earth and spice comes forward even more- more cardamon pods, pepper, orange zest with some green hops- turns a slight bit vegetal and waxy and reminded me a bit of lotus flowers similar to a lotus beer made by Vermont brewpub. Mostly smooth finish with a bit more vegetal slight astringency. Ok.

On tap 8/3/08: Pours a glowing transparent dark copper amber with a thin ring of off-white head. Aroma of sweet toasty caramel and biscuity malts with a touch of spice. Body starts with good fullness and sweet bready and light fruity flavor with a good balance of slightly peppery spice toward the finish. A pretty nice saison.

Golden-amber with no head. Weird aroma - plums, diacetyl, peach and booziness. A little slick, oily body. It’s boozy first on the palate, with light caramel, some tree fruits. But remains too slick on the palate...needs more carbonation, maybe more hop too.

Ruby-garnet red, served in tulip, not much head. Sour bing cherry aroma, also wood funk. Oily mouthfeel, low carbonation. Interesting brew. Lots of seed oil flavors. Sour cherry with interesting yeast profiles, I guess this is what happens when yeast listens to jazz.

Tap at Alpharetta location. Nice reddish pour. Hardly any head by the time it made it to my table. Aroma is very unique. I get some great spice notes, some flowers on the nose. Interesting grain aroma and some sweet sugary aromas too. Flavor is very malty, fruity, spicy and a very faint bitterness is around to balance this beer. Another good beer from 5 seasons.

Pours a clear mahogany. The aroma is heavily spicy. Some of the spices used in this come across a little hot (I’m guessing the grains of paradise). Interesting beer to say the least.

Tap. Cloudy and Opaque. Color of the crust on a loaf of white bread. Aroma of citrus zest, cardamom, and tupelo honey. Medium dryness. Lots of malts. Heavy bodied. Easy on the palate. Hard to make of it overall. Finish has a strong alcohol flavor, like a sake. Funky yeast complexity. I don’t think I care for it very much just like Shakti’s music...Ridin the funkii jazz beats. ( It’s just to much?) Better than duBob, just too much jazz.
