This is an American style IPA. India Pale Ale originated when English breweries were contracted to supply ales to the British troops in India, in the 19th Century. They were brewed to a slightly higher gravity than local London Ales and then allowed to mature shipboard, en route to India. A dose of fresh hops was added to each barrel (a process called “dry-hopping”), to protect the brew from spoilage and increase shelf-life, as hops are a natural preservative. Unlike most military ration, IPAs really caught on in popularity with the troops who began to demand it in local pubs, upon their return home. American IPA is hopped a little more generously than its British cousin, with our more aromatic American hop varieties. Ours is brewed with American, German, Belgian and English specialty malts and then liberally dry-hopped with a blend of Cascade and Columbus hops, from the Yakima Valley. This gives it a nice, bright, citrus, floral aroma.

Tap at brewpub. Hazy amber color with a small white head. Hoppy citrus aroma with sweet caramel malt and sweet fruits. Flavor matches aroma with citrus taste and bitterness. Medium body.

Draft atm. Amber gold pour. Big citrus / piney nose. Mostly huge hoppy flavors - ctirusy and a somne of the rind of citrus fruit. Sweet malty flavors too, though I would like to see a little more malt to back up the huge amount of hops here. Very big bitter finish. Unbalanced - needs some more malt for me, but if you are a hophead, you will love it.

On tap at the brewpub. Now THIS is an IPA! Big hop aroma, abrasive hop mouthfeel, and the initial flavor is like a big huge hoppy kick in the teeth. I loved this beer.

I’m assuming that this is the beer I had on tap at the pub. All I have in my notes is IPA. Catty, citric, piney nose. Nice maltiness with an apricot passionfruit character. Nice hoppy IPA that seems failry big.

A solid "West Coast" IPA from the Southeast. Medium gold. Floral/citrus hops aroma. Excellent hop bite without being over the top.

Hoppy and citrusy in both the aroma and flavor. This is a great example of a hop lovers IPA. Great from start to finish.

Wonderful IPA- Aroma and flavor were a blast of citrus hops...mmmm good. Very heavily hopped but not overly bitter a great example of the American rendition of the IPA

This beer poured a nice amber color. Flavor was CITRUS FRUIT. A mix of grapefruit, lemon, oranges, tangarines. A little overdone IMO but it all seemed to blend well with the mild hops. A refreshing IPA.

Rather dark for an IPA, but then again it's unfiltered. Strong grapefruit rind hop presence. Flavor is more of the same with a light bread malt profile. Overall the flavor felt sort of watery though.

Hazy dark armber with wet white head that laces nicely. Big aroma, lemon zest hops are huge. The flavor is also big on the hops, slightly less of the citrus here, they come through most in the lingering bitter finish that is restrained just enough to avoid being harsh. As it warmed a slight herbally or spicey note came out in the hop profile that was quite nice. Nice toasty, biscuity malt fills the flavor out to keep it from being one-dimensional. Very light sweetness. Slightly creamy mouthfeel. Excellent IPA.
