| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Sep 23, 2009 Appearance: Dark, walnut brown body with thin hints of garnet-colored hues at the edges and layered with a thinnish covering of off-white foam.
Smell: It’s like a side-by-side comparison of a malty brown ale and a cupping of espresso, though, some invigorated swirling helps the espresso to shine through just a bit more.
Taste: A flavorful blend of predominately dark maltiness and a taste of chilled espresso both vie and compete for your immediate attention. The malts convey tastes of dry caramel, semi-sweet chocolate, toasted malts, and some lesser nutty undertones. Restrained amount of sweetness throughout. Then, in comes the roasty espresso which intermingles with the roasted malts and a mild earthy hop character. Finishes modestly roasty with lasting hints of darkened malts and espresso.
Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied. Medium-low carbonation.
Drinkability: It’s good! A nice addition of espresso character without ever losing sight of the Decadent Brown Ale underneath.
