4.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20 wunderbier (1434) - Tampere, - JAN 28, 2005
Bitter and rich coffee notes rush forward at first whiff. Roasted grains and smooth chocolate follow shortly behind with slightly less presence. Near burnt caramel and toffee round out the onslaught of malt. Perhaps a bit of floral hop bitterness is present, but it might be the roasted coffee playing tricks on my mind. The beer looks and swirls as thick as India ink, crowned with a dense, but short brown head. The flavor begins heavily sweet with a light coffee bitterness and finishes still mostly sweet but with more roasty bitterness. A heavy aftertaste lingers and makes you wonder if it was beer or espresso you just tasted. The body is as thick and viscous as I’ve ever experienced with just enough carbonation to keep it from being cloying. On par with Dark Lord and BA Speedway for mouthfeel. The bottom line is: Make no mistake that this beer is only about the coffee. If you are looking for much more you’ll be disappointed, but if you love coffee you will have found heaven!

This is damn good stuff. This is almost the perfect breakfast beer. Has that kind of coconut nose, and makes me wonder what the SPF of this beer is. Rich and creamy with roasted coffee notes throughout, intermingled with loads of chocolate and cocoa. Although this is really heavy on the maltiness, and is quite sweet as it warms, which detracts slightly from the mouthfeel. Finishes with a dry bitterness reminiscent of chicory. Well done!

nothing beats a morning cup of coffee with breakfast, lots of coffee, roasted malt character showing through, more bitterness in the long finish, would be too much bitterness if not for the rich coffee to balance it out

Well I didn’t expect much from this one, and it didnt deliver much either. Probably drinkable for those who like some bitterness but can’t take the alcohol. F... close to waer, too. Reminds me of a watery Budwiser.
4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 Delirium (589) - Copenhagen, DENMARK - APR 29, 2007
Draught at the brewpub. Pours black with a moderate tan head. Aroma is sweet roasted malt, with noticeable coffee, some dark fruits, and a little bit of alcohol. Flavor is similar notes, quite full-bodied and a bit like a dessert beer, but with enough tanginess to keep from being cloying. Reminds me just a bit of a baltic porter. Excellent.

Wow. Black with a thick off white head. The nose is crazy coffee. Coffee, coffee and more coffee. Velvety smooth palate and tastes like a chocolate covered espresso bean. Awesome.
4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20 Cybercat (1892) - Georgia, USA - APR 22, 2007
This looks exactly the way a stout should - opaque sable color with a thick tan head that dissipates slowly. Aroma has strong coffee overtones with burnt or smoky hints. Burnt coffee flavor dominates the taste, but the classic stout flavor comes through. It is almost like drinking spiked, cold coffee rather than beer. This is a good after-dinner drink.
3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 15/20 kwoeltje (1842) - Manchester, Missouri, USA - APR 21, 2007
(served in a snifter) Deep black with tan head. Coffee/roast malt aroma. As advertised, a lot of coffee in the flavor, along with roast malts, hints of chocolate. Smooth and perhaps ever so slightly sweet like an oatmeal stout - enough hops for balance.
4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 Aurelius (3143) - Tallahassee, Florida, USA - OCT 14, 2006
Almost opaque brown/black. Nice, nice creamy chocolate and coffee malt aroma. The aroma plays well with the smoky aroma of the BBQ here. Pretty well-bittered - a combination of hops and dark malt. Nutty, a bit on the acidic side via the coffee I guess. Lots of character, but well-balanced. Medium-heavy body, not fizzy. Mellow chicory aftertaste. Well done.
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 MullMan (1099) - New Jersey, USA - AUG 19, 2006
bottle at the final heavyweight open house. mostly black body and a dark tan head. aroma is burnt coffee like a pot left on overnight, and a little suntan lotion. flavor is roasted coffee malt; dry and a little bitter.
4.4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20 scraff (2120) - Baltimore, Maryland, USA - APR 28, 2006
Draft at the source - This beer and brewpub together kick ass. Deep dense black, tan lasting creamy head. Rich nose of medium roast coffee, bittersweet chocolate, caramel, cream, and oatmeal. Flavor up front is all about the coffee, but minus the charred bitter notes. Additional toasty chocolate and caramel notes play out, and a late soft hop bitterness pulls it together for near perfection. Full bodied, soft carbonation, smooth, coffee-like finish. Just a great brew…
