On tap at the Houston Flying Saucer a few weeks back. Deep brown-black with a foamy chocolate-brown head. The beer opens medium sweet and finishes with a tingly pepper spiciness. It’s a little spicy, but definitely not too hot or overwhelming. A fun experiment and another tasty brew from (512).

Sipping the beer gives you a mild nasal/back of the throat burn. Flavors are of dry roast, chocolate, bready malt, plums, grainy, and some lactose character. Fuller bodied, lower carbonation.

Growler from D&Q. Pours pitch black with a large mocha colored head. Smells sweet, hints of chocolate with a very slight tingle of spiciness. Taste has hints of sweet chocolate at the front end and then moves to a tingling spiciness at the back end. Light-to-medium bodied with a wet, smooth texture and incredibly soft mouth-carbonation, (512) Cascabel Cream Stout finishes with a bit of pepper heat in the back of the throat and a tingle on the lips.

4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20 rougeau13 (1212) - Texas, USA - FEB 2, 2012
Near black with a small tan head. Aroma of roast, chocolate, and roasted sweet and hot peppers. Taste is rich chocolate and roasted malt, a little fruit, and mild heat. An excellent balance, there’s enough pepper to taste and get a touch of heat, without the overkill of peppers that brewers often use. Medium-full bodied and silky. This, like Texas Ranger, is one of the few pepper beers that make me want more than one in a sitting. Excellent.

Damn good beer. But best in small quantities. I started feeling the lingering pepper heat after maybe 8 ounces. Overall smooth and crisp with tons of coffee, spice and creamy Notes.

On tap at Petrol Station. Pours black with a brown head that dissipates to the edges. Aroma has a good amount of roasted malt and light coffee with a nice backing creaminess. Flavor begins with a bit of sweet chocolate and roasted malts but finished slightly weak with a hint of roast and a bit of heat that lasts.
