3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 Theydon_Bois (3368) - The ’Sham, Surrey, ENGLAND - JUN 8, 2013
Cask at the Ginger Man, Houston, 21/05/13.
Mid black with a medium tan head that retains well.
Nose is roast malt, vanilla, syrup, sugars, chocolate.
Taste comprises pecan, roast malt, lactose, light chocolate notes.
Medium bodied but a little on the thin/watery side - certainly for a 6.8% ABV beer, moderate carbonation, soft roast in the finish.
Drinkable porter, let down by lack of body and no great depth of flavour, not one I’d look to in the future.
3.2 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 BMMillsy (715) - Florida, USA - MAY 28, 2013
Poured at Stubbs in Austin. Dark brown pour with creamy mocha head. Roasty and nutty aroma, but not much going on. Slight roast up front with a lingering nuttiness. Bunch of chocolate coming through as I go. Not sure if this is on nitro or what, but very low carbonation and maybe slightly watered down (or maybe I've been having too many stouts lately). Solid beer.
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 brystmar (517) - Dallas, Texas, USA - MAY 22, 2013
On cask. Deep brown body, stubborn brown head & lace adorn my glass. Beautiful bouquet of toasted grain, roasted pecans, butterscotch, toffee.
Taste leaves a bit to be desired, as the brunt of its nutty flavor fades to finish watery. What's here is good: a little refinement could turn this into a serious contender within the style. Shame the state makes it ILLEGAL for these guys to bottle & distribute this (and all of their other) beer(s). Fuck the TABC.

thick and chocolaty Stout, big caramel head. Like someone put caramel and hops in guiness.

(draft @ The Esquire - San Antonio, TX) Dark brown pour with a chocolatey head. Nice and roasted chocolate aroma with some mild nutty hints, which is what I expected. Flavor is roasted chocolate at the start with a very light and dry nutty pecan finish. Very enjoyable.

Draught. Pours a very dark brown color with a moderate off-white head. Nose and taste are both quite roasty. Feels very smooth and makes for an easy drink.

I’ve seen great reviews on this beer, however I was not overly impressed. The color and lack of head had me thinking that this beer would be full and flavorful. In reality I found this beer to be light in body, long on finish but disappointing on the palate. It was reminiscent of old watered down coffee. I didn’t get much Pecan but was left with a very dry, tannic feeling. Not a bad beer but also not overly impressive.
