COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
That’s right, the first seasonal offering (of many to come ) from (512) Brewing Company was brewed this week. It’s a Robust Porter brewed with Pecans. Look for this beer to be released sometime in late October - We can’t release it until there’s at least a hint of cool weather in the air! This nearly black Porter is made with US 2-row and Crystal malts along with Baird’s Chocolate and Black malts. Mild smooth hop bitterness is contrasted with sharp black malt bitterness. It has a full body and malty sweetness balanced with subtle pecan aroma and flavor from locally grown pecans. Yet another true Austin original!

Black as night falls, nice mocha head. The nut on the nose come through a tad. You also get roasty, chocolate on the nose. The mouthfeel is that of silky with some medium body. Smoke comes in just slighty then the roasted chocolate and on the finish the pecan makes a cameo.

Handbottle from the brewery. Pours an opaque dark brown color with a medium dark brown head. Decent head retention and nice rings of lacing. Aroma is bitter roasted malts, faint leafy hops, nuts and maple. Taste is pecan pie... pecans, brown sugar... leafy hop notes, slight fruity noted.

UPDATED: JUL 27, 2010 Very dark. Light cocoa aroma. Tastes of sweet chocolate and roasted coffee beans. Nice, a little dry. 3.5
RE-RATE 7/27/10 Tap courtesy of cwsample. Dark brown appearance with a tan ring of head. Decent lacing. Roasted notes apparent on the nose with slight cocoa beans. Definitely a chocolate feel that immediately morphs into a nutty dryness. Slightly roasted finish. Still good.

Growler generously shared by Cletus. Notes on this one are thin... slightly sweet, though not as much as I thought it would be, with just a hint of oaky nuttiness. Decent, though I thought they would make it a tad sweeter to emphasize the flavoring.

On tap at Gingerman Austin. Pours black with a big brown head. Nose of burnt malts and chocolate. Slightly nutty. Taste of chocolates, burnt malts and the pecan comes through on the end. Firm, full mouth. Nice beer.

Growler, courtesy GodOfThunder. Dark mahogany to virtually black in color, the body is topped with a small, velvety, cream colored head. Soapy lacing mostly rejoins the body, scant traces remaining behind. The aroma is mostly roasty, notes of dark cocoa, burnt caramel, and mocha showing well. Flavors, too, are roasty and chocolaty, with a nice, earthy hop bitterness coming through on the finish. Hints of mild spice linger in the background, but I don’t really get any of the pecan nuttiness that I expected. Medium bodied and balanced on the tongue, the substantial, choco-caramel roast and hop bite linger for a good while. Nice brew.

UPDATED: MAY 23, 2010 A lovely, satiny black brew with a thin brown head and superb lacing. Aroma reminiscent of vanilla, and I think only because it’s labeled "pecan" will you really notice the pecan characteristics. It’s just a touch, and just enough. A little musky, almost resinous. Thick and smooth body, but light on the palate. Roasted sweetness and a clean, smooth finish. I mean it... SMOOTH. I have never been let down by (512).

Thanks to Nate for the hand-bottle! Dark black pour with a thick khaki head. Espresso and nuts on the nose... Hahaha did I say nuts on the nose? Thin bodied. Flavor and complexity improves as it warms. Roast, dark fruits, and chocolate up front. Pecan flavor comes out on the finish
