4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
A: The pour is a dark, dark brown color with a fingerís worth (or so) of tan head.
S: Plenty of roast comes through right away with a bit of bananas, which I was not expecting. The nuttiness is there and provides some interesting sweetness, along with a chocolate note.
T: A very nice roasty base for this beer. The flavor profile is sort of all over the place: sweet bananas, chocolate, pecans, coffee, and perhaps some molasses too.
M: The body is medium with a somewhat low carbonation, but it doesnít detract from the beer at all.
D: Iím very glad to have finally tried this one, and to find that it was as good as I expected. A very enjoyable beer that I would have again.

Cask at Ginger Man Austin. Brown with big tan head and lace. Pecan and cocoa nib aromas. Flavor is roast malts, cocoa, coffee, and nuttiness. Medium body with watery texture. A decent porter but the flavors fade fast into a residual sweet and bitter finish.

Out of a growler at a tasting, brought by jojomdma...thanks Joe! - Pours deep and dark with a small tan head. Smell has peppercorns, a little heat, dark, roasty malt, and dark chocolate. The taste is pretty decadent, with dark chocolate, espresso, light cinnamon, Irish creme, and some nice, complimentary ashiness. Decent heat on the finish, and though a little thinner and more watery than Iíd like, real pleasant in the mouth.

Growler thanks to xpimptastikx!! Dense black pour with big chocolate colored head fading quickly to the edges; aromas of stale nuts, peanut shells and dry chocolate; nice cola sweetness with creamy texture; some plumy fruits with mild ash and chaulk in the finish; sweet, dry peanuts and pecan shells; the nuts here help mute the sweetness and the final product is very tasty and well rounded; lots of dry chocolate and a little fruit; damn tasty; thanks Mike!!

Wow, a porter. Canít really screw up a porter can you? Well, they didnít. It is simple enough and not screwed up, but I am looking forward to trying a real beer from these guys. Thankfully, the pecan flavors were restrained, ícause me donít likey pecans.

On tap at Ginger Man in Austin, TX. Nearly black in appearance with minimal head. Definite pecan on the nose (surprise!). Good interplay between roasted malt, coffee, and pecan flavors on the palate. Just a touch of sweetness. Really well made, this was the first beer I tried from (512) Brewing and it was a great introduction to their offerings.
