Very dark pour. I like the smell better than the taste. Taste is bitter but not too bad. The aftertaste has more flavor than the initial taste.

UPDATED: APR 13, 2014 re- rate 04/14. raised score from 3.4......really enjoyed it on draft this time - much more so than previous two times; will try again to see if this is a 4 as it was this time. much more flavor profile this time - got nuts, chocolate and others, low carbonation. great stuff - would give 4 based off this tasting but leaving lower due to previous ratings............................waited awhile for this one; had on tap at whisky cake in Plano.. no aroma; very dark pour; perfect thinckness/mouthfeel - dissapointed in the taste though... smooth on front end, is that smokeyness (probably it is the pecan flavor)?? too strong/bitter on back end - I taste no banana or chocolate like others..dissapointed
re rate 10/11 - had draft at Plano Gingerman; more flavor but still nothing outstantding - nothing stands out...

Draft in pint glass. Pours black with a thick tan head. The aroma is mostly roasted malts with hints of candy and coffee. Taste is very sweet with roasted malts contributing the most - notes of chocolate/coffee. Little bitter taste to bring sweetness back a little and very slight alcohol. Smooth and creamy mouthfeel with minimal carbonation. A very easy drink that tastes great- will definitely get again.

This pretty, classic porter from the Peopleís Democratic Republic of Austin poured out a deep black color with a fine aroma of roasted malt, burnt sugar and coffee. The taste is robust and somewhat tart at the front end, with chocolate and coffee. Not much pecan. A nice, mid-alcohol palate with low carbonation, this beer tasted better (to me) as the pint was consumed. And the weather, still cool, was perfect for it.

Dark chocolate, light smoke, caramel. Pretty burnt and bitter taste for me though. I donít get much pecan either. I wish it tasted like a pecan pie

On tap at Little Woodrows in Rice Village. Pours opaque with frothy tan head. Aroma is coffee, smoke, and toasted malt. One swig and this was a real surprise. Very smooth and complex. Delicious and easy to drink, with a reminder of Stoneís smoked porter without as many hops, just a smooth, drinkable, outstanding porter.

4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Keg. Pours dark, dark, dark -- the head on this beer is darker than some beers that claim to be porters. Smells like roast coffee and just a faint hint of pecans. Same faint hint on the tongue; mostly itís about a creamy, bitter porter with great notes of coffee and licorice. Mouthfeel is surprisingly clean. Delicious.

On tap at the Cedar Door in Austin. Lovely dark brown, nearly black pour with beige head. Nose shows nice roast, some chocolate, mild sweet coffee notes, and a hint of pecans. The nuttiness comes out more in the taste. Light palate. Unique and tasty.
