COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
That’s right, the first seasonal offering (of many to come ) from (512) Brewing Company was brewed this week. It’s a Robust Porter brewed with Pecans. Look for this beer to be released sometime in late October - We can’t release it until there’s at least a hint of cool weather in the air! This nearly black Porter is made with US 2-row and Crystal malts along with Baird’s Chocolate and Black malts. Mild smooth hop bitterness is contrasted with sharp black malt bitterness. It has a full body and malty sweetness balanced with subtle pecan aroma and flavor from locally grown pecans. Yet another true Austin original!

Opaque, oily pour. Short but dense tan head. Sweet olivine, toasty aroma. Smooth, sweetish, coffee tones pretty smooth. Choco-pecan finish. Lots sweeter as it warms. OK. Tap, Flying Saucer, Downtown Houston.

Pours very dark, almost black with a cappuccino colored head. Nose is nutty malt. Flavor is sweet, with notes of coffee and molasses. Medium body. Good brew. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

On tap at Meddlesome Moth, I guess i’m not familiar enough with the intricacies of pecans, but this has a slight nutty sweetness which I’m attributing to the pecan. other than that its your standard unoffensive porter which I enjoy.

Not bad at all -- pecans are an interesting addition. I almost wish it was a little sweeter. This is a medium-bodied porter, with some chocolate and some dark roast, but the flavors are really pretty mild. They should come out with a variation called "Pecan Pie Porter." Then we’d really be talking!

I’m not sure what all the hype about this brew is. It is passable, if that. It has a chocolaty type of taste. Reminded me of a Guiness, even though this is a porter. It has a smooth wash but it’s taste does not overwhelm. Feels too familiar. And I feel a Texas beer now more than ever needs to excel! This one certainly does not.

Cask at the Ginger Man, Houston, 21/05/13. Mid black with a medium tan head that retains well. Nose is roast malt, vanilla, syrup, sugars, chocolate. Taste comprises pecan, roast malt, lactose, light chocolate notes. Medium bodied but a little on the thin/watery side - certainly for a 6.8% ABV beer, moderate carbonation, soft roast in the finish. Drinkable porter, let down by lack of body and no great depth of flavour, not one I’d look to in the future.
