COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
That’s right, the first seasonal offering (of many to come ) from (512) Brewing Company was brewed this week. It’s a Robust Porter brewed with Pecans. Look for this beer to be released sometime in late October - We can’t release it until there’s at least a hint of cool weather in the air! This nearly black Porter is made with US 2-row and Crystal malts along with Baird’s Chocolate and Black malts. Mild smooth hop bitterness is contrasted with sharp black malt bitterness. It has a full body and malty sweetness balanced with subtle pecan aroma and flavor from locally grown pecans. Yet another true Austin original!

Tap @ Ginger Man, Dallas. Deep brown color with a medium off-white head. The nose is light chocolate, roasted malts, light deep autumn fruits and nuts. The taste is dusty nuts, more chocolate, toffee and caramel. Light bitter finish. Very smooth. Medium body, soft. Quite flavorful. Very nice.

Tap at Flying Saucer - Houston. Poured a deep, deep brown with little-to-no head. looks extremely viscous and oily. Smell is nutty, char, molasses, light peanut, cocoa, and coffee. Taste is very nutty, chocolate, coffee, toffee, hints of vanilla, and molasses. Sticky/oily mouthfeel with soft carbonation. Very smooth and well-balanced porter. Pretty good stuff.

Draft @ Double Horn Brewing. Pours black with a half finger of nut brown head. Aroma of coffee, chocolate and roasty pecans. Taste is light bitter. Coffee and pecans. Medium bodied with a somewhat thin texture. Lively carbonation and a long coffee-chocolate finish. Overall, not bad. I would drink this again given the chance.

Aroma and appearance were okay, though nothing special. Taste was more like coffee than pecan; aftertaste was ash-like. Not one of my favorites.

UPDATED: APR 19, 2012 Beautiful, gorgeous black drink with a cappuccino head that settles at about a half centimeter of thickness. The aroma is sweet with notes of toffee, chocolate, caramel, roasted barley, and of course, nuts. The taste is mellow and gentle on the tongue, following these notes. The pecan flavor is brought out nicely. Very nice body for a porter. I really like it. Not one-dimensional at all.

16oz draught pint. I smell coffee in the aroma. Black color, light head and lacing. Taste reminds me more of coffee than pecans. Tastes too black and bitter for me, but not quite full enough to be a session beer. Just OK compared to other porters, I like it about as much as I like flavored coffees (not very much)

Brown pour with light tan head and lace. Aroma is mostly coffee with a hinto pecan. Light sweet malt, coffee and a finishing pecan that is subtle but there for sure. A tad thin and watery but very original beer.
