3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Keg at Yardhouse, Houston. It pours darkest brown, near black with a sturdy tan head. The aroma is rich roasted malt, plenty of toasted nuts, a good hit of coffee, treacle and cacao nibs. The taste is bitter, dry roasted malt, toasted nuts, earthy, pecan pie, chewy malt, coffee grounds, cocoa, fudge, toffee and a bit of alcohol. The finish is dry and toasty. Medium body and fine, prickly carbonation. Could be done with a bit more depth, but itís pretty decent anyhow.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Quite dark, opaque, tan head. Honey, floral notes, some espresso, dark chocolate. Predominantly sweet with some bitterness. Quite a lot of acidity, cloying oily body, really coats the mouth. Not a huge amount of carbonation. Good.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 15/20
Tap at Brass Tap, Fort Worth. Pours black, small tan head. Aroma is pecan, honey, saccharine, roasted malt, chocolate. I like it. Flavor is still pecan and roasted malts, but body is a bit light. More heavy and viscous and this would be killer.

On tap at Bangers Austin. Pour like dark cola, roasted aroma. This is better, a lot, as it warms. Dark cocoa, burnt wood and some nuttiness. Lots of caramel malts and relatively high carbonation. Decent Porter.

On tap at Moviehouse Flower Mound while I was visiting Dallas for a meeting. Pours a dark brown, clear color. Not much nose, mostly malt. Flavor is nutty, chocolate, malt; no pecan really. Thin mouthfeel. Pretty average porter.

On nitro in Denton. Sweet pecan pie filling, syrupy, a bit too much for me. Good flavors but really saccharine.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Draught, smallish head, opaque black color, aroma of aromatic coffee, dark bread and mellow nutty backbone, flavor of nuts and coffee with earthy and green hints, smooth and easy to drink, light pleasant chocolate aftertaste. Very good and fun to drink, its reputation is deserved.
