3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 carboloader (577) - Houston, USA - DEC 12, 2010
On tap at Little Woodrows in Rice Village. Pours opaque with frothy tan head. Aroma is coffee, smoke, and toasted malt. One swig and this was a real surprise. Very smooth and complex. Delicious and easy to drink, with a reminder of Stone’s smoked porter without as many hops, just a smooth, drinkable, outstanding porter.

Draft @ Double Horn Brewing. Pours black with a half finger of nut brown head. Aroma of coffee, chocolate and roasty pecans. Taste is light bitter. Coffee and pecans. Medium bodied with a somewhat thin texture. Lively carbonation and a long coffee-chocolate finish. Overall, not bad. I would drink this again given the chance.

Aroma and appearance were okay, though nothing special. Taste was more like coffee than pecan; aftertaste was ash-like. Not one of my favorites.

UPDATED: APR 19, 2012 Beautiful, gorgeous black drink with a cappuccino head that settles at about a half centimeter of thickness. The aroma is sweet with notes of toffee, chocolate, caramel, roasted barley, and of course, nuts. The taste is mellow and gentle on the tongue, following these notes. The pecan flavor is brought out nicely. Very nice body for a porter. I really like it. Not one-dimensional at all.
2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20 Caytinator (100) - Kaiserslautern, Rhineland-Palatinate, GERMANY - MAR 21, 2012
16oz draught pint. I smell coffee in the aroma. Black color, light head and lacing. Taste reminds me more of coffee than pecans. Tastes too black and bitter for me, but not quite full enough to be a session beer. Just OK compared to other porters, I like it about as much as I like flavored coffees (not very much)

Brown pour with light tan head and lace. Aroma is mostly coffee with a hinto pecan. Light sweet malt, coffee and a finishing pecan that is subtle but there for sure. A tad thin and watery but very original beer.

Taste: Very nice malty sweetness, milk chocolates mingling nicely with dark stone fruits
Palate: It nicely coats the mouth and is deceptively smooth
Overall: Very enjoyable, constantly on the lookout for more

UPDATED: FEB 21, 2012 Location: Draft at Ginger Man- Austin, 2/17/12
Aroma: This one has a lot of roasted malts, plus some caramel and cocoa on the nose
Appearance: This one is a brown colored beer with a small light brown head
Flavor: The flavor is roasty and malty, not super sweet, with minimal bitterness
Palate: The body is fairly full on this one, and it has a dry, roasty mouthfeel to it
Overall Impression:
This is a solid roasted porter, I didn’t get a ton of pecan presence, I mostly got dry/roasty malts, but I still enjoyed it.

A nicely blended Porter. I understand the high ratings. Full body with notes of vanilla, smoke, roasted malt, chocolate and dry dark malty coffee finish.
I didn’t notice the pecan too much, but the hint of nut was apparent.
