This is a bigger, bolder version of our mainstay Pecan Porter, with a richer finish. Two months on recently emptied Jack Daniels select barrels imparted a wonderful vanilla character from the oak and a pleasant amount of whiskey nose and flavor.

Dark black, red edges. 1 finger coffee head. Super boozy. Very creamy mouthfeel. It really is super nutty!

2012 bottle. Aroma has a moderate chocolate note with medium high dark fruit character. Medium light bourbon notes. Dark fruit is cherry, plum and prune. Light roast notes. Medium light but character. Pours a dark brown, almost black with a big, medium thick, mocha head that recedes fairly quickly but then a small head lingers throughout. Medium light lacing and moderate legs. Flavor has moderate roast notes with medium light dark chocolate. The fruit character of the aroma is lighter with only hints of dark fruit. Light bourbon character with a moderate nuttiness. Finish has some bourbon and alcohol spice along with some roast malt notes. Mouthfeel is medium light bodied with medium high to high carbonation. Medium low astringency and medium low alcohol warmth. Overall an alright beer but it has room for improvement, especially in the mouthfeel category. It is too thin and the overly high carbonation just accentuates this. I’m also not sure I really like the pecan character.

Bottle, shared at the Boxing Day tasting at TimE’s place in Calgary. Red brown with a lively brown head. Chocolate and pecan aroma and flavour, not overly sweet which is a huge plus. Light maple syrup, subtle barrel traits. Finishes dry. Surprisingly elegant.

Dark brown color. Sweet malty pecan pie nose. Really smooth and silky. Malty smooth mouth, fairly sweet but enjoyable. Nice. But boozy.

UPDATED: APR 4, 2014 Bottle - Pecan, bourbon and vanilla. Jet black with a stunning brown head. Pecans, big whiskey notes and some chocolate malts. Great for the pecans. Draft - Most of the boldness is lost, almost castrated. Bottle is much better.

Bottle shared at Lightening Day. Thanks! Pours a deep blackish hue, darker and well murky body. Some gentle legs. Subtle brownish edges and bottom. A frohthy tannish head dies to a thicker ring, laces ok. Aromas are cocoa, carmelized malts. Toffee, caramel, gentle oak and vanilla. Touches of nutty earth, sugar pecans, and gentle sweetness grows. Touches of sweetness, carmelized sugar, bourbon and vanilla, wet oak, some acetaldehyde crops up as it settles down a bit on the nose. Initial is a bit lighter in body, well carbonated with vanilla, sugary pecans, carmelized malts and toffee. Some toast, vanilla, cocoa, and some gentle coffee. Middle is vanilla, a bit of toffee and sweetness. Not thick, a bit thinned with vanilla, gentle spirit and barrel. Some toffee, toast, carmelized malts and sugary pecans. Backend is a bit sugary, mellow barrel. A bit sweeter back here, but some gentle flashes of acetaldehyde offer some mellow influence. Finish is a bit carmelized, sugary, mellow oak and warmth. Solid stuff. Not full or thick but nice flavors overall. Solid stuff. Acetaldehyde is gentle, and something I’m not as turned off by, but is definitely there.

2011 Bottle pours a dark brown black with a large tan head. Aroma is strong of whiskey, vanilla, and the dryer and of pecans. Taste of sweet vanilla, whiskey not as strong as aroma lets on, light pecan, and roasted coffee on the finish. Nice!

Let me say this: this could be a solid BASE porter, or maybe even wort. Pecan it is definitely not. Double Pecan? That is pure fantasy. Roasty but astringent malts dominate. Faint whiskey heat. Fades into a medium bitterness. Thin, kind of oily on the palate. I was really disappointed with this beer. Call it a basic porter and it’d get a rating in the 3s somewhere.

25.4 oz bottle. Dark brown with a puffy tan head. Nose is whiskey, oak vanilla, mocha and toasted pecans. Sharp and foamy mouthfeel with lingering richness and roast. Taste features a pronounced nuttiness without the whiskey overpowering. Additional prune, mocha and caramel with a dry finish.
