COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This is a bigger, bolder version of our mainstay Pecan Porter, with a richer finish. Two months on recently emptied Jack Daniels select barrels imparted a wonderful vanilla character from the oak and a pleasant amount of whiskey nose and flavor.

Bottle:   Black, large tannish frothy head, sparce lacing.   Soft roasted malts and pale fruit skin on the nose.   Very similar on the tongue.   Mild sweetness, good Porter, but not getting much of the barrel aged character.   Body and mouthfeel are moderate.   Mild nuttiness on the exit.   Doesn’t seem all that special to me, but its still enjoyable.   Thanks for sharing Trevor!

Pours a deep black with a tan head. Nose is a nice blend of bourbon/caramel/oak/chocolate. Flavor is upfront whiskey with a nutty caramel finish. Thick on the tongue. Wow. Great balance; the whiskey never overpowers.

750ml Bottle: Got in trade from Errl; THANKS Chris! Aroma of malt, nuts, pecans, dust, and a hint of cocoa. No aroma of oak, whiskey, and Jack Daniels. Poured pitch black in color with a huge, creamy, dense, brown head that diminished, but lasted throughout. Opaque. Sparkling. Flavor is medium sweet and slightly bitter. Tastes of malt, vanilla, Whiskey, slight alcohol, dust, cocoa, nuts, pecans, slight Bourbon, and a hint of wood. Medium body. Slick, then dry texture. Soft to average carbonation. Light to medium sweet, slightly bitter, malt, Bourbon, Whiskey, vanilla, pecan, nut, vanilla finish is lightly chalky and dry. 8.2%ABV is completely hidden throughout.

750ml bottle from Mora2000, thanks Bill! 2012 version with 1964 stamped in the wax. Pours a black body with an inch thick, dense, creamy and foamy, dark brown head that dissipates slowly and leaves a nice lacing. Aroma has a nice oak and whiskey up front before a good amount of nuttiness comes in along with dark chocolates, vanilla, roasts, and some toffee keeping this on the sweeter side. Flavor is similar with roasts, oak, and nuts up front before some whiskey, dark chocolate, vanilla, and a light toffee come in. Finishes dry from the roasts and oak with a nice whiskey spice, but fairly sweet from the chocolate and nuttiness. Light bitterness before leaving a lengthy aftertaste. Medium body with a higher carbonation. Overall, a nice strong porter. Bill warned me that the carbonation might be a little high and it was, but not so much that it completely distracted from the flavor. I think if this year’s bottle was less carbonated and drank more creamily, I would have enjoyed it a bit more. Despite that, I liked the oak and whiskey flavors playing off the nutty chocolates and vanilla. Hopefully I can try this again in the future.

Deep black in color with slight tan head. Strong whiskey notes on the aroma with some hints of roastiness underneath. Quite sweet and roasty with the vanilla whiskey strength intertwined. Really tasty! Notes: On tap at the Friendly Spot, San Antonio

The 2012 version which was release April 17th has black wax on the bottle and is numbered in the wax. The black wax gives the bottle that extra look of appeal. Apperance is that of a thicker motor oil which is helped by the bottle fermentation and the finer bubvles it produces. Black as black and a nice mocha colored head on this baby. The nose is roast, dark fruit, and yumminess. The finer buibbles gives the mouthfeel this creaminess that is very nice. The alcohol is present but to me compliments this beer. It lets you know you are drinking a bigger badder version. IMO the best release yet! I really have a tough descision on to trade any away or save it for myself. If you have not had this, it is up there with the best of them. BEFORE I drank this years version abyss was my favorite go to stout! This has changed my mind as my new fav stout even though porter is in the name

Vigorously boozy aroma of roasted grain, tofee, pastries, nuts, caramel, ripe bananas, chocolate, liquorice, and a bunch of things that go quite well together. The taste hotter still, suggesting more alcohol than there really is. It’s much sturdier and sweeter than that of the standard Pecan Porter. The mouthfeel is hearty. Good stuff.

Black, with a nice tan head. Decent lacing. Aroma of bourbon barrel, pecan and a hint of chocolate. Taste is full of bourbon, roasted malt, vanilla and pecans. The bourbon taste is bold, but it doesn’t overpower the beer. Medium full bodied and smooth. Very nice.

Bottle poured into snifter. Scored this in a recent trade and it arrived at my doorstep leaking. Perhaps it was the FL heat that caused this. Whatever the case I decided to still give it a shot. The carbonation was still in tact, as was the aroma, Flavor was perhaps a tad flat but nothing to serious to complain about. Nice chocolate pecan aroma with a touch of bourbon, Not a bad showing here but I guess I was expecting more.

Wow, and I thought the regular pecan porter was good! Dark and rich with caramelized sugar sweetness and a light pecan aftertaste. Thank you sir, may I have another?
