Deep black in color with slight tan head. Strong whiskey notes on the aroma with some hints of roastiness underneath. Quite sweet and roasty with the vanilla whiskey strength intertwined. Really tasty!

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle shared at Lightening Day. Thanks! Pours a deep blackish hue, darker and well murky body. Some gentle legs. Subtle brownish edges and bottom. A frohthy tannish head dies to a thicker ring, laces ok. Aromas are cocoa, carmelized malts. Toffee, caramel, gentle oak and vanilla. Touches of nutty earth, sugar pecans, and gentle sweetness grows. Touches of sweetness, carmelized sugar, bourbon and vanilla, wet oak, some acetaldehyde crops up as it settles down a bit on the nose. Initial is a bit lighter in body, well carbonated with vanilla, sugary pecans, carmelized malts and toffee. Some toast, vanilla, cocoa, and some gentle coffee. Middle is vanilla, a bit of toffee and sweetness. Not thick, a bit thinned with vanilla, gentle spirit and barrel. Some toffee, toast, carmelized malts and sugary pecans. Backend is a bit sugary, mellow barrel. A bit sweeter back here, but some gentle flashes of acetaldehyde offer some mellow influence. Finish is a bit carmelized, sugary, mellow oak and warmth. Solid stuff. Not full or thick but nice flavors overall. Solid stuff. Acetaldehyde is gentle, and something I’m not as turned off by, but is definitely there.

Let me say this: this could be a solid BASE porter, or maybe even wort. Pecan it is definitely not. Double Pecan? That is pure fantasy.
Roasty but astringent malts dominate. Faint whiskey heat. Fades into a medium bitterness. Thin, kind of oily on the palate.
I was really disappointed with this beer. Call it a basic porter and it’d get a rating in the 3s somewhere.

On tap at the Addison Saucer (pretty sure it's 2013). Finally got to try WBDPP that wasn't infected! Woo!!
Opaque black pour with some tan head & lace; good retention on what stuck around. Hearty roasted malt aroma supplemented by notes of toffee, caramel, chocolate, and whiskey.
Palate is deliciously viscous and appropriately carbonated -- so nice to not gush! Whiskey barrel character is subdued on the palate, playing second fiddle as a supplement to the overall flavor profile (as it should). Nutty and dry with rivers of caramel and toffee streaming through. Makes a strong case for being the best imperial (dark ale) in Texas. Really good stuff.

750 ml bottle shared with the group. Pours black with a medium sized khaki head. The aroma has roasted malt, a pleasant nut character, whiskey, vanilla, wood with a hint of cherry. The flavor is roasted malts, dark chocolate, nutty, whiskey, wood, vanilla and some black cherry. Solid offering, perhaps slightly on the thin side of average mouth feel.

Bottle @ Crooked Stave ROY-G-BIV Day. Pour is deep brown, almost black with a big tan head. Huge roasty, nutty, vanilla aroma - other lighter notes of oak, cocoa, coffee, and dark fruits. Taste is again heavy roast - though not overly charred - wood, oak, dark fruits, espresso, and chocolate. Creamy mouthfeel with soft carbonation. Nice stuff!
