3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle brought back from Austria: Thanks Tanja! Pours a rusty ruby amber with an off white creamy head. Woody aroma- peaty smoke- fairly clean and earthy. Has a nice fluffy body. Fairly smoky flavor with a woody earthiness and a touch of sweet peat. Quite dry throughout with a minerally ashy touch. Pretty solid, I’d just like it smokier.

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Tried this vom fass at 7Stern and in 500ml capped bottle. Dark brown colour with a reasonable white head. Mild smokey malt aroma. Flavours are that of smoked salmon and ham. Milder than other rauchbiers I’ve had. Dry, smokey and salty finish. A very good none-the-less.

3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
BCTC 2009. Pours a hazy nutty woody light brown with a thin head. Aroma is good clean cold smoke- bamberg-style beechwood smoke, a bit bacon wood and leather. Flavor is earthy decent toasty malts, some cold smoked salmon, and light bacon, leather, and light leafy hop- mostly light crackery malts and clean- nothing too big or exciting.

4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Draught at the brewpub
Dark color, amber and mahogany, with a persistent creamy head. Strong aroma of smoked sausages. It has a correct body strength, even if getting thinner towards the end; caramel flavor, dry, with pleasant smokey touch, and correct bitterness. Balanced, as usual; in the final there is some more dark chocolate, and the smoke presence is persistent. Very good.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
draft at the brewery and later a vending machine bottle on my walk home. unfiltered chestnut brown body with a fine-bubbled tan head. nose of dusty aromatic baked bread and nutty, woody, smoked meat. overcarbonated but the body is rich and chewy. mildly sweet flavor. husky malts, crisp and rich in the finish. smoke is more of a dry pine nut thing, some smoked/roasted chestnuts and ham come to mind. mild ash notes at times. good but not great.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
On tap at the brewpub in Wien, July 09.
Nice dark color with a fairly mild smoky aroma. The flavor was smoky with classic elements of smoked ham. Also malt and some butter. Not that advanced but still a good brew.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
BCTC. Pours a hazy ruby brown with a touch of a white head. Smoke and malt, heavy on the smoke. Thin to medium body with the flavor echoing the nose, being primarily smoke and some roast malt behind it. Finishes smoky as well. Pretty nice.

3.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Draught at the brewpub. Hazy reddish dark brown colour with a creamy, long lasting off-white head. Fine aroma and taste of smoke and butterscotch, with fruity qualities. Well rounded and medium-bodied. A bit sticky on the palate, but not as "sharp" considering the smoke as, for example, the Schlenkerla Rauchbier. Lovely...
