7Stern-owner Sigmund Flitter just loves Bamberg’s smoked beers. So he decided to use large quantities of beech-wood - smoked malt in this franconian-inspired "Rauchbier". Dark red to black in colour with an impressive smoky nose and a full, smoky body that gives way to a robust bitterness the 7Stern "Rauchbier" is the perfect drink for those who prefer hearty smoked food or a good after dinner cigar.

Draught at the brewpub. Hazy red brown coloured with a small off-white head. Sweet and malty aroma of smoke and caramel. Malty flavour of fruits, smoke, caramel and hops. Hoppy and smoked finish.

From tap at the brewpub. Pours almost clear and deep golden brown with a small tan head. Aroma is distinct smoked ham with a nice wooden touch. "Spegepølse" taste, meat, wood and smoke. Sweet and malty. Lingering smoked into the far finish. Fantastic.

On tap @ brewpub. Pours dark amber with a beautiful creamy off-white head Strong aroma of smoked bacon. Taste is full of roasted malts, caramel with a pleasant smokey touch, and correct bitterness. Very well balanced.Full bodied . Long smokey finish, great, just great beer.

Deep brown pour with a thin white head. The nose is quite lovely. Bright and smoky with a bit of light fruitiness. Clean and well-constructed although there does appear to be a touch of oxidation setting into this bottle.

(Old BA rate - tap) Poured with a two finger deep, slightly tan/off-white head. Deep, dirty copper brown color. Great lacing throughout the sample. Sweetish malt actually shows up first. The smokiness definitely comes in as well, but not nearly as prominent as with others in the style range. Not nearly the smokey level that I would look for in the style, but the roasty, smokey, bacony flavors do come in a bit. Kinda mellow, and not as interesting as I would have wanted. Medium MF and carried flavors over the palate well. Not that rich, and pretty accessible. Just above average for me. Would have like the brew to be more interesting, and this would have increased my want to have another. Overall, solid and paired up well with some sausages and sauerkraut

Amber, tea color with a tan, lacing head. Smoked wood, roasted malts, caramel aroma, but not too intrusive. It would be nicer if the aroma was even stronger, the one I had was a bit too polite, but a nice direction. High carbonation in a medium dense body. Dry finish with a smokey aftertaste. No taste of the alcohol anywhere. Overall a nice beer, but aroma and body could be braver.

A beer smoked over large amounts of beechwood that has a massive aroma of bratwurst but a more gentle smoked meaty flavour. Basically it’s a sausage beer whose novelty doesn’t wear thin.

Bottle brought back from Austria: Thanks Tanja! Pours a rusty ruby amber with an off white creamy head. Woody aroma- peaty smoke- fairly clean and earthy. Has a nice fluffy body. Fairly smoky flavor with a woody earthiness and a touch of sweet peat. Quite dry throughout with a minerally ashy touch. Pretty solid, I’d just like it smokier.

Tried this vom fass at 7Stern and in 500ml capped bottle. Dark brown colour with a reasonable white head. Mild smokey malt aroma. Flavours are that of smoked salmon and ham. Milder than other rauchbiers I’ve had. Dry, smokey and salty finish. A very good none-the-less.
