3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 tomer (971) - Rishon Le Zion, ISRAEL - MAR 11, 2012
Draught at the brewpub, small stable head, hazy deep dark orange colour bordering on the brown, aroma of dark bread with white fruit, herbs and touches of pine behind it, bready flavour with some fruitiness and a strong herbal bitterness, long bitter sour aftertaste. Not bad, but more an amber ale then an IPA.
3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 danielst (233) - Vienna, AUSTRIA - FEB 25, 2012
UPDATED: MAR 21, 2012 50cl bottle, from the vending machine: Hazy copper red with a decent head. The aroma is dominated by spicy hops, not really the citrussy type. Hints of fruity esters and tobacco. It’s a lot milder than most American-style IPAs in both the flavour and aroma, but not lacking a decent amount of bitterness and hop kick, especially in the finish - grassy, piney hops. Low carbonation, which is nice, but a little too thin on the palate. Interesting and very drinkable beer.
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20 lord_totenkopf (191) - Budapest, HUNGARY - FEB 7, 2012
On tap at 7sternBräu, Vienna. Darrk amberish colour, off-white minimal head. Hoppy IPA aroma with some hays, yeast and slight bread notes. The taste is a bit watery, bitter finish but not as dry as I expected.
3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 Jukkabro (3471) - Tampere, FINLAND - APR 2, 2008
UPDATED: APR 3, 2008 (Bottled) Cardboardy aroma with some IPA-note, fruits with strong German hops, fine balanced aroma. Medium bodied. Flavor starts with strong hops and flowery caramel, mild caramel also here. Aftertaste dries even more with some flowers and hops still. Well, good one, not too complex. Still expected more from 2. highest rated beer in Austria.
3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 joergen (14985) - Frederiksberg, DENMARK - NOV 25, 2007
Draught at the brewpub.
Hazy orange coloured with an off white head.
Aroma of malts, fruits and hops.
Fruity flavour of malts, caramel and hops.
Central european/german hop profile. Not my definition of an IPA.
3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 jspruit (122) - Dublin, IRELAND - APR 14, 2007
Had some of this on tap in Vienna at the 7 Stern Brau House and then decided to buy a 500mL bottle to take home too.
Although the bottle travelled from Vienna to Prague and back to Dublin, I was very impressed with the overall quality of this beer. The pour was nice to a two-finger head and was a golden copper color and smelled great. Plenty of hops, but not too much, with a great taste that went well with a cheeseburger. I could definitely have another, but I dont think that I could drink this all night long as that could lead to a nasty night (and morning.) Needless to say, I will plan on picking some up again the next time I am in Vienna.
4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 motelpogo (5041) - Plzen, CZECH REPUBLIC - FEB 26, 2007
on tap at the brewpub. copper with a steady head. very american character - big grapefruity aroma with pine forest and dried apple. quite full-bodied - i would have guessed this at around the 6%abv mark. rasping fruitiness, some wrigleys juicy fruit sweetness and grapefruit. excellent stuff. and it’s only the second best ipa in vienna
4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 Gazza (726) - Worcester, Worcestershire, ENGLAND - MAR 29, 2004
A very pale beer with a superb aroma - like putting your head into a ripe lemon! Intense citrus and hop nose, massive cascade hop flavour of lemon jelly and mandarins. A huge bitterness, but not so huge as to mask the hop flavour, rounds off this tasty and refreshing beer. A classic. (sampled on draught in brewpub)
