thewolf (4143), Kolding, Denmark Jul 13, 2008 Tap @ the brewpub, Vienna.
Pours deep mahogany with a nice, medium, creamy, off-white head. Aroma is sweet, lightly roasted. A bit light in mouthfeel, but still alright. Flavour starts of a little weak, but gains some roastiness and fine chocolate. A little cardboard, but also a fine, black currants note. Very drinkable.
MiP (6276), Flensburg, Germany Nov 27, 2008 Draught, 4.5% at the brewpub. Dark brown colour, seems hazy. Stable light brown head. The flavour is very roasted with a little cream and vinousness. Gets faintly sourish in the finish. downender (1725), Bristol, Gloucestershire, England Oct 4, 2008 On tap at the brewpub. Near black with a big, frothy tan head. Aroma of treacly sweet malts with some dark fruit and toastiness. Flavour had toffee, coffee and a sour edge, that reminded me of Batemans mild, before a short bitter finish. Good stuff. swoopjones (1234), Buffalo, New York, USA Oct 1, 2008 On tap @ 7 Stern Brau, Vienna. Pours a chocolate brown color. Aroma is full of sweet malts. Taste reminds me of malted milk balls. Average dunkel. Least favorite beer here @ 7 Stern Brau heavy (536), Split, Croatia Aug 29, 2008 0.5 l fliptop bottle Doggythedog shared with me, so thanks! 4,5% ABV. BB date is tomorrow, so let’s see. Poured nice murky brown body with bigger ocher head. Very nice coffee and caramel aroma with some wood (may be nuts) and a bit of cocoa. Flavor wasn’t unfortunately so nice, caramel and coffee malt based, bit watery with odd sourness which only partially comes from unpasteurized hops. Shorter finish in that sourish way. Fine enough, but it’s surely better fresh and I’ll definitely rerate it once at the brewpub. Doggythedog (1074), Split, Croatia Aug 29, 2008 0.5l bottle brought from the brewpub by a friend (huge thanks, Ivana!)
Poured a murky, very dark red. Big, lasting off white head. Quite nice. Smelled like... chocolate with hazelnuts and/or peanuts. A little caramel, maybe some coffee. The taste got a little acidic (bb date tomorrow, but hey, it traveled a lot and all), hazelnuts and peanut butter again. Fine, delicate maltiness. Light and quite likable even if it’s not at its peak.
