3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 Rastacouere (6042) - Montreal, Quebec, CANADA - JAN 24, 2009
Hazy brick red-brown colour. Very nice 1-inch lacy white foam. This was out of a 1L bottle and seems straight off the draught. Earthy and caramelly in a unified way, heavy toasty, munich nuttiness, sweetish and bordering molasses, but never syrupy, all along clearly an expertly brewed lager. Very classy, if stuffy maltiness. A sweeter rauchbier, its bock base is rich and quite heavy, but it remains incredibly drinkable thanks to the plain joy it is to drink, the flavour balance, the clean toastiness and the classy, engaging carbonation. As good as their other rauchbier. Am I impressed? Sure I am. Am I surprised? Well, not really I must say.
4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 MartinT (6934) - Montreal, Quebec, CANADA - JAN 9, 2009
UPDATED: JAN 18, 2009 My Bottom Line:
Within this sumptuous Rauchbock evolves smoked gouda, caramelized and bready cereals, all in a very drinkable and moreover succulent pint of wintry merriment.
Further Personal Perceptions:
-A creamy sheet of foam laces around the cloudy copper.
-The smokiness is evocative, yet is not as intense as Schlenkerla’s, which makes it more drinkable to me.
-All of their beers were served at the right temperature. Bravo!
-Carbonation is frothy from the tap, which in this case increase the drinkability.
-Some roastiness is tasted within too.
-The body is lusciously round and easy.
On tap at the brewpub and from a 1-liter bottle.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 spporras (259) - FINLAND - APR 30, 2007
(Bottle BB ??/05/07; ABV 6.2%; Thanks Jay!) Aroma of tar and smoke. Dark amber colour and average size, white head with fair lacing. Sweet, caramel, tar and very slightly bitter flavour. Softly carbonated and medium-bodied palate. Smooth and tasty smoked beer! 28/04/07
3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 Geiserich (2559) - Vienna, AUSTRIA - NOV 19, 2004
Creamy, thick off-white head, good lace. Dark amber to brown color. Velvety taste, malty with hints of acid, light to medium smoky taste. Malty with pleasant smoky flavor. Pithy and full bodied, round but maybe a hint to alcoholic. Finish with a medium strong dry hop bitterness, some smoky notes. A really pleasant beer.
