UPDATED: NOV 21, 2005 Sweet malty aroma with notes of chocolate and i think I smell crystal malts too, but I have no idea if any of the 7 damn beers in here use a lot of crystal malts. Deep brown with a firm finger thick head. Much more malty than I expected. Little roasted elements...actually NO roasted elements, but a lot of malty and mildly toasty brown ale notes. Fruity in the middle with a low key touch of hops in the finish. Tastes MUCH MORE like a brown ale than most porters brewed in the US today, but I guess technically this would be closer to a traditional English porter.

A: The pour is a dark brown color with some reddish notes and a nice tan head.
S: Roasted malts and some mild coffee notes up front with a touch of dark, bitter chocolate. There’s a ton of dark fruit aromas that are really quite nice. There’s a mild toffee sweetness underlying it all.
T: The flavor is a let down after the nose. Toffee and molasses provide the sweetness, along with just a hint of caramel. There’s a decent amount of coffee and roast and just a hint of smokiness.
M: The mouthfeel is where this beer really falters. Pretty thin and it detracts from the flavor as well. Medium carbonation is present.
O: Surprisingly good considering the age of it. Don’t see it getting any better, but it’s still good.

Draft. Sampled at Drafting Room Exton’s Baltic Thunder Debut, 1/5/2008. I heard about this blend during the Craft Brewers Conference in 2005, and I really wanted to sample it. I figured that it was all gone, so I’m glad that I had the opportunity to sample it. The beer poured deep browish amber, with a moderate sized tan head. Aroma was primarily chocolate, with some caramel notes. Chocolate came through in the flavor, with some smoke and nutty flavors. This beer was definitely showing its age, but I’m still glad that I was finally able to try it.

Draft. dark brown with small tan head. Malty aroma of chocolate and caramel. Fizzy mouthful. Light sweetness with light dark fruit flavors. Fizzy finish. No bad bbut not that great either. I struggled to finished the 10oz.

Draught: Aroma of chocolate, malts, oates, and a tiny bit of smoke. Poured dark brown in color with a small off-white head that diminished. Clear. Not sparkling. Flavor of malt, chocolate, and nuts. Medium body. Dry texture. Soft carbonation. Dry, sweet, malty finish.

On tap at Baltic Thunder release party at Drafting Room. Blends are always a tricky thing, especially one and a ahlf year old porters. This stuff doesn’t really hold up too time. Chalky mouthfeel, still a bit hoppy but stale tasting.

Had a bottle with John from Churchkey, lovely deep amber brown color, good amount of tan beige head. the nose was nutty with a bit of smoke and some sweetness. the flavor and im not sure if this was the age gave slightly a black licorice flavor, slightly smoky some dried fruits and good malts great beer

Bottle given to me by Sam the brewer at Shoreline, MUCHO THANKS! : I would have shared this had I know prior to logging on that it was so rare. Enjoyed in my Great Lakes snifter, it is deep brown with an initial nice frothy tan head that left good lace on the glassware. The aroma has notes of leathery oxidation (in a good way), honey roasted nuts, caramel and toffee, hint of pipe smoke and a lovely earthy ester. The taste starts with a solid walnut overtone in support by some chocolate and black patient malt. Additionally I found light traces of plum and raisin, leather, and a mild oxidation. This has aged wonderfully providing an almost Baltic nature. The mouth feel is soft and dry, what I expected from a year and half old porter. A total surprise, I dug it from beginning to end. Truly remorse I did not share it with someone.

Poured a reddish brown color with a small, tan head that left light lacing on the glass. Aroma of warm melted chocolate, nuts, smoke as well. Taste was earthy, some brownie chocolate, raisins, and other dried fruits, and no alcohol at all. Enjoyable, better than I expected, considering the blend this is. Thanks Jack!
