Commercial Description:
In response to the popularity of 'Three Threads' (pale ale, new brown ale and stale brown ale mixed at the spigot by tavernkeepers), Ralph Harwood of the Bell Brewhouse in Shoreditch, England produced the first brewed porter in 1722. By 1780 more than 75% of the ale brewed in London was porter. In 1789, George Washington wrote "We have already been too long subject to British prejudices. I use no porter or cheese in my family, but such as is made in America: both these articles may now be purchased of an excellent quality." Let freedom pour in Philadelphia!
7 Threads Symposium Ale is a blended porter made with Dogfish Head Indian Brown Ale, Flying Fish Porter, Independence Brewpub Oatmeal Stout, Iron Hill Pig Iron Porter, Nodding Head Grog, Stoudt's Fat Dog Stout, Victory Storm King Stout & Yards India Pale Ale. 6.8% ABV, 50 IBUs. Blended and bottled at Stoudts Brewery to commemorate the Brewers Association's Craft Brewers Conference and BrewExpo America®, April 13-16, 2005 Philadelphia, PA

Draft. Sampled at Drafting Room Exton’s Baltic Thunder Debut, 1/5/2008. I heard about this blend during the Craft Brewers Conference in 2005, and I really wanted to sample it. I figured that it was all gone, so I’m glad that I had the opportunity to sample it. The beer poured deep browish amber, with a moderate sized tan head. Aroma was primarily chocolate, with some caramel notes. Chocolate came through in the flavor, with some smoke and nutty flavors. This beer was definitely showing its age, but I’m still glad that I was finally able to try it.

Draught: Aroma of chocolate, malts, oates, and a tiny bit of smoke. Poured dark brown in color with a small off-white head that diminished. Clear. Not sparkling. Flavor of malt, chocolate, and nuts. Medium body. Dry texture. Soft carbonation. Dry, sweet, malty finish.

On tap at Baltic Thunder release party at Drafting Room. Blends are always a tricky thing, especially one and a ahlf year old porters. This stuff doesn’t really hold up too time. Chalky mouthfeel, still a bit hoppy but stale tasting.
